JOB SUMMARY

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs Human Resources related functions and services in the Risk Management unit. #oj

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.

  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.

  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.

  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.

  • Associate’s degree (A.A. or A.S.) AND two (2) years of related human resources related experience (i.e. Worker’s Compensation, FMLA, Disability claims handling, human resources, safety administration, insurance and benefits administration, claims investigation, etc.) AND/OR the equivalent combination of education/experience.

  • Ability to complete and file employee paperwork related to workers’ compensation, FMLA, and Disability claims. Enter information into databases and/or spreadsheets. Process paperwork and verify paperwork contains necessary signatures and other supporting documentation. Track employee progress and follows-up when necessary.

  • Ability to answer questions verbally or in writing regarding risk management issues. Respond to requests for documents and other information. Exercise independent judgment in accordance with public information laws, agency policies, and operating procedures.

  • Ability to serve as a Risk Management representative at offsite meetings and respond to questions from employees, vendors, and the public. Present risk management information before groups in informational meetings and/or employee orientations.

  • Ability to prepare routine correspondence, memorandums, reports, and other documents. File and maintain confidential and sensitive information. Log data in computer.

  • May be required to conduct research and develop reports/publications for distribution. Gather statistical information for reports.

  • Ability to liaise with outside organizations (e.g., Florida State Retirement FRS, Cigna, Delta Dental, etc.) regarding risk management related issues.

  • Ability to provide guidance and assistance to agency employees in filling out paperwork when necessary. Check paperwork for completeness and accuracy.

  • Ability to complete special projects when necessary.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, vendors, and the public.

  • Must have proficient communication skills (i.e. verbal and nonverbal) and public speaking ability to present to diverse group size and population (i.e. age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, socio-economic level, etc.).

  • Must have the ability to effectively gather, analyze, and maintain confidential sensitive information.

  • Ability to prepare concise and accurate computer generated reports in compliance with policy.

  • Must have proficient written communication skills to include the ability to maintain detailed files and produce comprehensive reports.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in various forms.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and demonstrate self-initiative.

  • Must have effective organizational skills.

  • Must have basic computer skills to include word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.

  • Must possess information systems entry and retrieval skills.

  • Must have the ability to learn and utilize specialized applications and informational systems (e.g., human resources systems software) and use the Internet effectively to research information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, or related field; experience handling Worker’s Compensation claims; experience working with injured workers and outside claim adjusters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
