    This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

  • three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;

  • any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;

  • a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and

  • a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

    Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION: Manage the Turnpike's Traffic Engineering Design Office consisting of Signing and Pavement Marking, Signalization, ITS (Intelligent Transportation System), Lighting and Electrical. Perform highly advanced engineering work coordinating the Turnpike's Signing and Pavement Marking Design program for the Turnpike. Work with general consultant staff and the engineer of record in the development of technically sound and cost-feasible construction projects. Review all Traffic Engineering tasks and assign general consultant review staff as needed. Work with internal and external staff to develop the Traffic Engineering portions of task assignments as required, including man-hour estimates, concept reports, project scopes, and other related reports. Provide technical support for signing and pavement marking elements as needed for project meetings, design development, and inter-department coordination. Coordinate with the Planning office for the development of any required design traffic reports, operational analysis, and alternative traffic modeling studies. Serve as an expert witness. Sign and seal engineering documents as required. Perform field visits and attend project meetings.

    Oversee work efforts for general consultant field office and home office staff. Assist in the review of general consultant budget to ensure that Traffic Design efforts adequately address the needs identified in the work program. Evaluate and grade consultant activities. Assist in the development of signing and pavement marking related criteria for the Florida Design Manual.

    Participate in the consultant selection process, including long list, short list, and evaluation of oral and technical presentations. Meet with consultants and governmental agencies to address resolutions of production issues. Attend consultant staff presentations.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of and skilled in the engineering process for production of highway construction plans; Knowledge of concepts, terminologies, design principles and analytical techniques of highway design; Knowledge of computer aided drafting and design (CADD) tools and automated office products; Skilled in the use of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships; Knowledge of project engineering and scheduling; Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques in the area of highway design; Skilled in communicating technical information verbally and in writing; Knowledge of and skilled in interpretation of roadway design standards, specifications and criteria established or adopted by Florida Department of Transportation; Ability to solve engineering related problems; Skill in planning, organizing, and managing multiple work assignments; Ability to use a personal computer (PC); Ability to guide and direct designers in the design process; Ability to be an active part of a group; Ability to serve as a representative on design issues.

    REQUIRED LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471.

    OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: A class E driver’s license is required. Overnight travel may be required. Incumbent will be essential to assisting the Turnpike Enterprise in response to emergency situations and special circumstances as required.
