Position Announcement

 

Utah Valley University is seeking a Program Coordinator! Working under the supervision and guidance of the Director, this position coordinates first-generation programming for incoming and continuing first-generation students. Coordinates first-generation activities with key stakeholders (i.e., students, faculty, staff, community partners, etc.) to ensure that accurate information and support are provided across the campus community and to students in a timely manner. The coordinator will provide support and mentorship to first-generation students, as directed, along with tracking and monitoring the progress of students. The coordinator will support scholarships, collaborative events and programming, mentorship, and tracking with the Director and fellow staff.

 

Summary of Responsibilities

 

• Coach and mentor first-gen students involved in FGSSC programming, as well as incoming and continuing first-gen students. Coaching should include financial aid, scholarships, study strategies, registration, connecting to other offices on campus, and other resources as needed.

• Manages data collection and assists the Director with tracking, analyzing, and reporting data of first-gen students. Develops data tracking tools and writes reports.

• Oversees leadership development aspects for scholarship recipients, including: coordinating monthly leadership meetings, Learning Lunches, First-gen events, peer-to-peer mentor responsibilities, and the first-gen mentor program.

• Facilitates events and communications with students, community members, and other stakeholders on and off campus, focusing on print materials, online presence, social media, meetings, events and other communication plans

• Manage student worker staff, involving them in projects, meetings, and events as needed.

• Performs other job related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a related discipline or a combination of education and experience totaling four years

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Speaks a language other than English

• Knowledge of first-gen student experiences and scholarship

• Two years experience related to the

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

 

Knowledge:

 

• Knowledge of student development and the ability to assist students in developing effective academic plans and career and life goals, in order to promote student retention and academic success.

• Knowledge of recruiting and retention strategies for First-Gen, BISOC, and low-income students.

• Knowledge of financial aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements affecting First-Gen students.

• Knowledge of student advising and techniques including content, curriculum, and graduation requirements and the ability to anticipate departmental and student needs.

 

Skills:

 

• Skills in organizational, verbal, and written communication.

• Skills in interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and public relations sufficient to work with and relate to a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.

• Skills in the use of microcomputers, computer terminals, and academic and office software platforms (BANNER) as applied to the management of student records, report preparation, and related activities
