Position Summary

The Nestlé Product Technology Centre Coffee (NPTC Coffee) is the leading R&D organization that discovers, develops and deploys coffee and beverage products and technologies for in-home and out-of-home consumption. It consists of units in Konolfingen (CH), Marysville (USA), Orbe (CH) and Singapore and provides new products and processes to all Nestlé markets worldwide.

As a “ Process Modelling Specialist ” you will be responsible for accelerating the development of new and existing process lines by applying mechanistic modelling techniques. Your expertise will be crucial in optimizing and scaling-up process lines, solving operational issues, and developing web tools for R&D and engineers across Nestlé. Through your work, you will contribute to enhancing efficiency, productivity, and innovation within our organization. Your role will play a vital part in driving continuous improvement and ensuring the successful implementation of process line advancements.

A Day in the Life of a Process modelling specialist

  • Provide process modelling support to R&D projects and engineering developments ensuring results are beneficial and adapted to the needs, timing, and priority of the project.

  • Interface with Clients: Respond to new modelling requests, evaluate the clients' needs, and propose suitable modelling support with SMART objectives.

  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of food processes relevant to Nestle and the mechanistic principles, equations, and data needed to model them.

  • Share popular models on our web-based applications platform in collaboration with process experts & engineers for use by Nestlé engineers in R&D and operations.

  • Participate in the application & development of modelling expertise throughout Nestlé by sharing modelling experiences with other members through participation in workshops and network meetings.

  • Keep up to date with the latest software and hardware available to ensure an optimal choice of software tools and computers to respond effectively and economically to clients' modelling needs.

  • Develop and maintain process modelling tools to ensure they remain functional and well adapted to the needs of engineers throughout Nestlé.

What will make you successful

  • Degree in process, mechanical or chemical engineering with strong mathematical and programming skills.

  • Strong experience in a Process Modelling role, ideally within the food & beverage, industrial, or relevant field.

  • Programming skills (familiarity with Python and gPROMS or other equation solver language would be a big advantage)

  • Experience with web programming (e.g., HTML, JavaScript, etc.) would be an advantage

  • Experience in different mechanistic modelling techniques:

  • Advanced Process modelling (APM) with tools like gProms, Dymola

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling with tools like StarCCM+, Fluent

  • Granular flow modelling with DEM codes like Liggghts, Aspherix, StarCCM+ is a plus

  • Basic thermodynamics and mass, momentum and heat transport knowledge

  • Proficiency in AI technologies and tools for process modelling is a plus

  • Good communication skills for defining deliverables and presenting results to clients and management

  • Fluent in English, and French is an asset
