Summary:

All Weld Trainees will enter a comprehensive 14-week training program that consists of classroom, weld simulator, and on-the-job exercises.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welding metal parts with gas welding equipment as specified by blueprints.
  • Positioning parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks.
  • Examining welds for bead size and other specifications.
  • Repairing broken or cracked metal objects, fill holes, and build up metal parts.
  • Laying out, positioning, and tacking weld workpieces.
  • Scarf or groove welding prior to applying filler metal.
  • Chipping or grinding off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
  • Cleaning or degreasing parts.

Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Preferred:

  • AWS Certification, or
  • Experience in a high school welding program, or
  • Experience in a technical or trade school welding program.

Required:

  • This is a bid for internal employees interested in moving to the Weld Department. Employees who enter this program will be assigned to either Large or Small Wrecker Weld at the end of 12 weeks, depending on where the need is.Ability to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and a four on four off schedule is required.
  • Ability to perform physical aspects of the job including climbing step ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and standing for prolonged periods of time.
