Job Summary and Essential Job Duties
The Buyer is responsible for assisting with purchasing activity control to meet business and financial objectives through the development of internal and external supply chain relationships. The Buyer reports to the Supply Chain Manager (SCM) in the P3 Department.
Through On the Job Training (OJT), the Buyer will:
Solicit quotes from Suppliers/Review received quotes
Prepare and send purchase orders
Develop and maintain inventory control techniques to avoid shortages and excesses
Coordinate with SCM to resolve purchasing planning and control issues
Communicate with SCM, Buyers, and Suppliers on a regular basis
Ability to interact with multiple people within the company with respect to job/project needs
Interact with Sales to support quoting activities as needed
Other duties may include:
Review order acknowledgements from Suppliers to verify order status, ensure accuracy, and resolve discrepancies
Request order status from Suppliers
Maintain Supplier database
Plan, monitor, inspect, and organize material to ensure continuous operations
Recommend purchases as needed and send monthly material shortage report
Perform annual accounting inventory
Assist SCM with timely review and maintenance of documents
Maintain up-to-date knowledge on company objectives, purchasing strategies and support activities
Interacting with Suppliers with respect to RMA/returns of non-conforming product
Discovering and Onboarding new Suppliers
Education and Experience Requirements :
A High School Diploma or GED required. Experience related to manufacturing or supply chain preferred. Production control and/or optics experience desirable.
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge of intermediate level Microsoft Word and Outlook. Semi-advanced level Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of FileMaker Pro and Epicor desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Analytical troubleshooting / problem solving skills
Ability to understand and follow existing processes and procedures
Ability to work with multiple interruptions
Ability to work in a challenging, fast paced environment with good time management skills
Highly motivated, driven, results-oriented, team player
Flexible and able to multi-task responsibilities
Ability to read/understand blue prints

Work Environment:
This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies.
Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
