Springbrook Assistant Residential Manager- Snell House in Oneonta, New York

Position Summary:

The assistant house manager serves as an integral part of the residential leadership team. S/He provides supervision and oversight to staff members and promotes active programming during evening and weekend shifts. The assistant house manager provides essential communication and feedback to the house manager and exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in ensuring the implementation of quality training and service plan delivery in the residence.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant House manager will supervise, train and evaluate staff members in conjunction with the House Manager.

  • As directed by House Manager: Plans and coordinates activities of shift including meals and meal time plans, recreational activities, ADLs and other skill acquisition programs, money management for students and house, individualized residents’ schedules, documentation, and supporting students with challenging behavior.

  • Ensures that all staff thoroughly and accurately complete all required documentation each shift and facilitates the use of shift reports in the transfer of information between shifts.

  • Ensures active programming for all individuals receiving services including completion of individual schedules, goals, and daily activities, including securing and preparing required materials to carry out programming

  • Schedules, assigns, and helps maintain staff coverage on 24/7 basis

  • Has oversight for and filters calls to the Manager on Call system

  • Acts as a focal point for parent communication and ensures all staff act professionally during contact with families and outside parties.

  • Provides direct care to individuals receiving services including medication administration

  • Assists with medical appointments for individuals receiving services

  • Serves as a resource for staff members and has comprehensive knowledge of Part 633 and 624 regulations using this to guide staff members’ efforts in the site.

  • Supervises and oversees home visits and community experiences for individuals receiving services, including group trips to downstate drop off points

  • Attends all required training, staff development programs, and staff meetings.

  • Assists with supervision and staff training as directed by House Manager and/or Clinical coordinator.

  • Understands Springbrook’s corrective action process

  • Assists students and direct support professionals in the development and implementation of house rules

  • Models, for direct support professionals, best practices in the provision of training and instruction to students and ensures that data collection is both reliable and consistent.

  • Provides physical intervention and behavior support when needed

  • Assists with vehicle safety and physical plant maintenance

  • Attends meetings in place of house manager when assigned

  • Communicates shift reports and concerns to house manager

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associates preferred (Associates required for Golisano Program)

  • Must have (2) years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and hold the position of a DSP II and complete the SUNY Core (if employee does not have an Associate’s Degree or greater)

  • Must complete Springbrook Manager Training Program

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

  • Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; have the aptitude to learn other computer software as necessary.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.

  • Meet the requirements to drive Springbrook vehicles as required.

  • Be able to perform all physical interventions.
