SUNY Oneonta Adjunct Lecturer in American Sign Language in Oneonta, New York

The Department of World Languages & Literatures at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for an Adjunct Lecturer in American Sign Language position beginning Fall 2024. Expectations include, but are not limited to, teaching three in-person sections of Introductory American Sign Language I (ASL 1001). Applications will be kept on file in the World Languages & Literatures Department for consideration for two years. The initial appointment will be for one semester. The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures has major and minor programs in French and Spanish as well as the language part of French and Spanish Education. We are a small department with one full-time French faculty and five full-time Spanish faculty. Class sizes are capped at 25 students. Duties include but not limited to: Adjunct lecturers are responsible for all hours of instruction and may not change classes from in-person to online. Adjunct instructors consult with the department chair on material to be covered in each class but otherwise each instructor decides how/when to evaluate student work. Adjunct instructors are required to submit interim and final grades by the posted deadline and required to participate in all assessment data-gathering that affects their classes. Salary: $12,000. Requirements:Required Qualifications: Master's Degree completed or in progress at time of applicationNative or near-native proficiency in both English and American Sign LanguageTeaching experience at either the high school or college level.Preferred:Experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
