Summary
Volunteers are a vital part of caring for and supporting the persons served through the Mille Lacs Health System Homecare/Hospice Department. Volunteers may provide services (often in activities or companionship roles) or they may function in the background performing clerical and other support positions. The specific roles of a volunteer depend upon the unique gifts, talents, skills, and passion for service which the volunteer brings, matched with the needs of the clients/caregivers being served.
The position works under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator in the HomeCare/Hospice Department.
Volunteers Roles
One on one visits with residents/clients, i.e. providing companionship
Assisting with recreational activities (arts and crafts, music, baking, gardening, special events, etc.)
Assisting with spiritual programs
Visiting hospice clients and/or their caregivers in homes
Helping with household and outdoor tasks
Assisting with administrative tasks on site
Helping with community events (ex. Butterfly Release)
Specialized services such as pet therapy, therapeutic touch or massage, aromatherapy, music therapy, bereavement counseling, etc. (if the volunteer has proper credentialing to perform service)
Other Programs and Activities
New roles are unfolding all the time as people's needs change and as new volunteers bring additional skills, ideas and energy to the programs
Requirements
Provide Current Photo Identification
Successful Completion of a TB Screening
Successful completion of Drug and Alcohol Screen
Consent and successful completion of a Criminal Background Check
Consent and successful completion and clearance of a Department of Human Service Background check focusing on the Vulnerable sector screening
Volunteers must be age 18 or older
Completion of initial training and orientation and willingness to complete yearly updates and trainings as needed
Willing to comply and adhere to all Medicare and MN DHS regulations regarding safety, data privacy, etc. as pertains to the program area in which volunteer serves
A current flu shot is recommended but not mandatory
