Monday-Friday, day and evening hours (as late as 2200)

A Brief Overview

The Simulation Educator provides high-fidelity simulation course experiences to clinical teams at the direction of the Simulation Program Coordinator.

Essential Functions

  • Provides simulation education courses for defined staff in collaboration with Simulation Program Coordinator and unit Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Clinical Education Specialist (CES) or Clinical Resource Educator. • Implements programs that incorporate adult learning strategies, ethical principles, critical thinking skills, professional growth, open communication, and collaborative relationships. • Assesses objectives identified for course to prepare/review scenario to ensure content will meet objectives. • Develops and delivers versatile skills at teaching simulation course based on information presented by learners, adapting teaching style as needed to promote critical thinking development. • Provides real-time debriefing of each course with learners to identify strengths and opportunities for skill development based on scenario. • Provides feedback to unit-based CNS/educator on strengths and opportunities for clinical skill development of learners. • Evaluates simulation course based on self-performance and ensures learners provide feedback. Uses collective evaluation information to strengthen own skills for teaching simulation. • Communicates strengths and opportunities to Simulation Program Coordinator • Ensures completion of data tracking for each simulation course taught. • Professionally seeks opportunities to help teammates during shift as needed. • Demonstrates ability to prioritize workload and follows through with work in a timely manner. • Teaches Pediatric Advance Life Support class a minimum of four times/year.

  • Maintains equipment and supplies for simulation equipment. • Develops and maintains technical competency on high-fidelity simulation equipment • Develops and maintains ability to problem solve/trouble shoot issues with high-fidelity simulation equipment • Based on simulation course requirements, obtains and maintains required equipment and supplies needed for skills stations • Ensures all equipment/supplies are clean and in working order for each class. • Uses chain of command to communicate issues with simulation equipment/supplies for prompt resolution.

  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in nursing pediatric specialty area; 2 years of pediatric ICU experience Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong pediatric clinical nursing knowledge and background.

  • Must possess leadership skills to include ability to teach, offer constructive feedback, organize and manage time, problem solve, work autonomously and ability to motivate.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Able to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.

  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of Nebraska Required and

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required and

  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Required and

  • PALS INSTRC - PALS Instructor within 1 Year Required and

  • ACLS within 180 Days Required and

  • Current and valid certification in nursing simulation education area Preferred
