Schedule: FT; M-F 0800-1630; some varied scheduling as needed for training but will be determined and set by phlebotomy educator.

A Brief Overview

This position coordinates all continuing phlebotomy education programs sponsored by the Organization, maintaining accurate documentation of activities for the phlebotomy staff, nursing staff and outreach programs, while maintaining compliance with CLIA, CAP, and TJC accreditation standards.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates systems and processes to maintain accreditation through CLIA, CAP, and TJC standards.

  • Functions as an educational consultant for continuing education including • Collaborates with phlebotomists, nurses, and other disciplines to identify opportunities for improved pre-analytical specimen collection. • Conducts education needs assessment to identify education needs for gaps in knowledge, skills or practice. • Develops education programs that address identified gaps. • Leads education programs for inter and intra department needs. • Conducts evaluation of program effectiveness and outcomes in collaboration with Supervisor.

  • Uses principles of adult learning and instructional design systems to implement multifaceted education program/curriculum that ensures staff competency, professional role and critical thinking development. .

  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of required records to ensure compliance with accreditation standards

  • Mentors phlebotomists on the ASCP registry requirements for certification

  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize workload and follows through with work in a timely manner.

Education Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of phlebotomy Preferred or

  • equivalent experience normally acquired by working in a Phlebotomist position. Preferred and

  • Job training usually accomplished in six to twelve months. Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years phlebotomy experience Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Must maintain strong clinical knowledge of phlebotomy process and skills.

  • Must be strong positive role model for interpersonal relationships and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to include use of computer technology in program presentations and/or data analysis.

  • Must be able to work efficiently and independently much of the time with ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize numerous projects. .

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification within 180 Days Required and

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within 180 Days Required
