Omaha Children's Hospital Nurse Practitioner CC - Neonate Transport - NICU in Omaha, Nebraska

$15,000 hiring bonus and a relocation bonus for those who qualify!

Schedule: Full Time, 12-hour shifts / 7-7 (rotating)

Children’s Nebraska is building a team of Nurse Practitioners to support Neonate / NICU Transport. Our level 4 transport team is the only team in Nebraska specializing in the care of neonatal patients, and we have one of the first Neuro-Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the region.

We are a free-standing hospital that has dedicated over 75 years to helping children in our community. With a well-established collaborative team, we are ready to support you with onboarding and training opportunities. This position will be housed in the NICU and will be on stat for transport when needed.

Children’s Nebraska operates and maintains the fleet of four ground ambulances. Air Methods Corporation operates and maintains the air fleet. Children’s Nebraska is the sole users of the aircrafts.

The team transports patients to our new state of the art Hubbard Center for Children, which is a level 2 trauma center, consisting of a 20-room emergency department, 32-room cardiac care unit, 32-room pediatric intensive care unit, and 52-room neonatal intensive care unit.

We have received The Gold Standard of Nursing Excellence, Magnet Recognition 4 times, which is an honor achieved by only 2% of hospitals nationwide. Furthermore, the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems is proud to announce that Children’s Hospital Pediatric & Neonatal Transport was awarded accreditation on April 9, 2019.

Nurse Practitioner Neonate Transport

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for providing safe, comprehensive and compassionate clinical care. ◦ Assesses patient, synthesizes and analyzes data, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, and evaluates clinical outcomes. ◦ Seeks and integrates the perspectives of interprofessional team members in developing and implementing the plan of care. ◦ Preforms diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribes medications and complex medical regimes while monitoring for desired and adverse outcomes, specific to the infant/child with high risk, complex acute, critical, or chronic conditions. • Applies evidence based medicine pertinent to neonatal populations. • Continuously evaluates the relationships among access, cost, quality, safety and their influence on healthcare outcomes and sustainability. • Assumes leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice and to improve patient care through sharing knowledge, leading teams and developing programs. • Constant consideration of child’s development, family’s readiness and resources when translating health information, education and support. • Demonstrate understanding of internal and external rules, regulations and legislation as it relates to APP practice, licensure, certification and billing compliance. • Maintains accurate log of credentialed procedures performed. Demonstrates competency and expertise when performing credentialed procedures/specialty skills. • Serves as an advocate for the needs of the children and their families across the health care continuum ensuring the best patient/family experience possible.

  • Demonstrates responsiveness to the organizational functions of the transport process. ◦ Response Times are within targeted benchmarks set by the program. ◦ Complies with ambulance, helicopter, and fixed wing operational safety in accordance with current guidelines. ◦ Checks, cleans, and stocks transport bags and equipment. Ensures equipment is in good working order. ◦ Maintains all transport equipment in a state of mission readiness by checking all equipment at the beginning of each shift, noting any discrepancies and ensuring steps toward resolution. ◦ Cleans equipment and restocks bags after a transport. ◦ Demonstrates knowledge of transport equipment location, function and restocking procedures. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot all equipment and ensures that all malfunctions are promptly reported. ◦ Completes daily, weekly, monthly and ongoing equipment checklists. ◦ Completes quarterly competencies, monthly education, aircrew training, and other educational and professional development requirements when assigned.

  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

  • Education as required by Department of Health and Human Services-Regulation and Licensure Credentialing Division as represented by APRN licensure in the State of Nebraska Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience Critical Care Required and

  • Experience can be satisfied as a Critical Care RN, Critical Care APRN, or combination of both. Required and

  • Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in neonatal Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed.

  • Maintains practice agreement with service of specialty, and practices within framework of respective scope of practice.

  • Must be knowledgeable in billing regulation practices to include documentation requirements/CPT coding regulations.

  • Knowledge of physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social needs of the neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age and adolescent patients

  • Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attendance at conferences or seminars.

  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.

  • Ability to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current and valid unrestricted Nebraska state licensure (e.g., APRN, PA, RN) Required and

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required and

  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Required and

  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation within 180 Days Required and

  • CPNP-AC - Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care Required and

  • DEA License within 30 Days Required

  • Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed. Required and

  • Must have valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record Required and

  • Must be able to work in an environment which includes the use of ambulance, helicopter, and airplane patient transport vehicles that results in exposure to non-conventional motions, noise, vibration, fumes and extreme heat/cold. Required and

  • Due to the aircraft the Organization utilizes for both rotary and fixed wing, all Transport applicants must be 225 lbs or under at time of hire. Upon Hire Required
