Conagra Development Chef in Omaha, Nebraska

As the Development Chef, reporting to the Senior Executive Chef, you will focus on assigned benchtop prototype development that supports long and short-term innovation pipeline needs. You will collaborate with food scientists, processing engineers and other technical partners to develop inspirational and commercializable food prototypes that enhance Conagra Brands’ portfolio of frozen, refrigerated, snacks and grocery offerings. Development Chef contributes to food thought leadership by spearheading the development and execution of innovative culinary trends that include event specific menu development, gold standard prototyping and storytelling that contribute to our broader culinary strategy. This role manages the core functions of the development process, including overseeing critical kitchen operations and coordinating all functions within the kitchen facility.

Position Responsibilities

  • Oversee Kitchen operations (sanitation, maintenance, & organization)

  • Lead and execute technical cuttings, focusing on the latest culinary trends

  • Collaborate with internal and external groups to arrange culinary-centric business functions

  • Partner with procurement to source new purveyors or specific ingredients to achieve business needs

  • Oversee inventory of ingredients used in the development process

  • Proactively stage ingredients for upcoming development sessions, focusing on culinary innovation

  • Input and maintain formulas on inter-department shared drive

  • Mentor and guide associate chefs in their culinary journey

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in a culinary or related degree or equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years related experience in the food industry such as restaurant or hospitality.

  • ACF or RCA certification preferred.

  • Experience in dealing with translation of gold standard to bench standard and development of new prototypes within specified parameters.

  • Advanced culinary skills with a focus on current trends.

  • Basic understanding of food science and technical application.

  • Ability to effectively develop prototypes with varying levels of guidance.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to travel up to 30%. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible company representative.

Physical Requirements

  • Work in and around cramped/confined spaces

  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions

  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery

  • Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 6 hours as needed

  • May travel up to 30% of time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible CAG representative

  • Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens

We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future.

This position is usually in the office Monday - Thursday (with some remote flexibility those days). Fridays are usually remote.
