A description of the business units can be found at: https://www.jobs.irs.gov/about/who/business-divisions Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Taxpayer Services Service Centers Ogden Submission Processing The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. Researches a variety of sources, analyzes, and initiates actions on tax issues obtaining applicable returns, schedules, and all required information for correction of accounts and records; verifies, analyzes and adjusts taxpayer accounts. Reviews amendments submitted by the taxpayer to include the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, First-Time Homebuyer Credit, American Opportunity, Hope and Lifetime Credit, Telephone Excise Tax Refunds, Making Work Pay Credit and other similar tax credits. Processes corrections to math errors, certain Combat Zone and Decedent returns, accounts where there is a previously posted or pending adjustment, and changes to filing status 2 (Married Filing Joint) and 5 (Qualified Widower). Identifies processing changes to amended Forms 1040 when there is no Form 1040X attached. Sends formal disallowance letters when the taxpayer is not eligible for a credit and ensures account adjustments. Sends 369C letters to inform the taxpayer that Estimated Tax Penalties cannot be changed. Analyzes and resolves tax issues as a result of taxpayer amendment requests. Adjusts taxpayer accounts, prepares and issues manual/electronic refunds, performs multiple credit transfers, computes tax, penalty, and interest. Researches IDRS returns for the highest routing priority. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-11, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-11 in as little as three years. Telework Eligible Positions: Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework. Employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements (e.g., reporting at least twice a pay period to your assigned Post of Duty (POD)) and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program. Employees must also be within a 200-mile radius of their official assigned post-of-duty (POD) while in a telework status. As a reminder - If you are selected for a position, you are responsible for reporting to your designated POD (location) on the negotiated start date or as directed by management. Qualifications Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: General Experience/ Education GS-04: You must have at least one (1) year or twelve (12 months) of general experience equal to the next lower grade (GS -03) in the Federal government or two (2) years of education above the high school level (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school. General experience - Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience. Specialized Experience/ Education GS-05: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal government. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness. or completed four (4) years above high school in any field, in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university or a combination of experience or a combination of experience as described above. Specialized experience is experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Specialized Experience GS-06: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05). Examples of qualifying experience include positions dealing with the public analyzing tax or accounting issues. Experience must have included analyzing and resolving problems, adjusting accounts, and providing information on financial issue. AND MEET TIME IN GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT: You must meet applicable TIG requirements to be considered eligible. To meet TIG for positions above the GS-05 grade level, you must have served at least one year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade (or equivalent) in the normal line of progression for the position you are applying to. Advancement to positions up to GS-05 is permitted if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade held within the preceding 52 weeks. AND TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment. Education A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. Tour of Duty: Swing Shift - Start and stop times between 2:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours or telework may be available after 1 year. In the event that a building is closed due to rent management, new hires may be placed in a local commuting location. Season is from 6 to 8 months.
