A position has been declared open in Maintenance for a HVAC Programming Technician. This position is for 8.00 hours per day, 12 months per year.
Job Overview:
The job of HVAC Programming Technician was established for the purpose/s of programming, installing, repairing, and maintaining heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; identifying repair and/or replacement needs; providing necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment; and ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in timely manner. This job reports to the HVAC Foreman.
Job Description:
- Assists with the design and maintenance of the programming for computerized energy management systems to insure operating efficiency. Updates programs as necessary.
- Works with the building and maintenance personnel on proper operation of the systems and equipment.
- Assists in repair and installation in other areas of maintenance as may be required for the purpose of competing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operating snow blower and/or snowplow, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
- Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Diagnoses problems and/or failure in heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems, etc. for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and replacement needs.
- Inspects facilities, systems and their components (e.g. boiler controls, motor controls, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
- Installs heating/air conditioning/refrigeration equipment and systems (e.g. controls to replace defective equipment, etc.)
- Maintains a variety of files and computer records (e.g. equipment, repairs completed, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or providing information necessary to meet district, state and federal requirements.
- Maintains tools and/or equipment (e.g. air compressors, pneumatic controls, belts, dampers, valves, rooftop heating and cooling units {assists}, energy control systems {assists} and control-related equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Programs computerized control systems and electronic consoles for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with health and safety regulations.
- Repairs various items, systems and/or components (e.g. fan and/or low temperature systems, pneumatic controls, boiler controls, motor controls, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working conditions.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
- Assists other trades personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physi cal abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, sto ping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
Must be able to implement a computer based program and make changes to the system as needed. Need to be able to operate equipment used in installation, repair and maintenance on air conditioning and HVAC equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and handling hazardous materials.
Must be able to read electrical plans, prints, and diagrams; adapt to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.
Exercise good judgment in implementation of policy.
Ability to maintain favorable public relations.
Ability to analyze and interpret technical data and communicate it to non-technical individuals.
Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and reach.
Must be able to walk and stand for long periods,
Must be able to work in confined spaces.
Must have a current drivers license.
Must be able to operate equipment used in trade including general hand and power tools, saws, manlift, forklift, etc.
Must have knowledge of safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.
Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
Experience:
3-4 years of experience in computer programming or HVAC controls preferred.
HVAC knowledge, with the required experience in HVAC controls desired.
Targeted job related education that meets organization's prerequisite requirements.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
