Job Title: IT Security Analyst

Location: Hybrid in Oceanside, CA

Pay Range: starting from $52.00 per hour

What’s the Job?

Security Development and Implementation:

  • Develop and implement security applications, policies, standards, and procedures to prevent unauthorized data use, disclosure, modification, loss, or destruction.

  • Collaborate with Infrastructure Systems Engineers and staff to ensure IT infrastructure integrity and security.

  • Oversee the development, testing, and implementation of IT security products and control techniques district-wide.

Monitoring and Incident Response:

  • Monitor security systems, troubleshoot, diagnose, resolve, and report IT security issues and incidents.

  • Coordinate and conduct investigations of suspected security breaches and respond to emergency IT security situations.

  • Conduct daily reviews of vulnerabilities and work with a SOC consultant (e.g., Artic Wolf) to monitor networks and mitigate issues.

Consultation and Compliance:

  • Consult with application developers and Academic Information Services staff to ensure compliance with IT security policies and standards.

  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and create risk assessments, categorizing risks effectively.

  • Perform audits and periodic inspections to ensure the efficacy of security measures and recommend improvements.

Training and Education:

  • Develop and promote IT security and privacy awareness training for district administrators, faculty, and staff.

  • Establish security-incident notification procedures for district management.

Software and Tools Evaluation:

  • Review, evaluate, and recommend security software products (e.g., virus scanning, encryption, firewalls, intrusion detection).

  • Utilize tools such as Splunk, Cortex (Palo Alto), and MS Defender.

Professional Development:

  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, personal networks, and participation in professional associations.

Other:

  • Participate in IT facility acquisition, construction, and remodeling projects to ensure security policy compliance.

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert or witness in legal matters concerning IT security.

  • Attend meetings and participate in committees as required.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirement:

  • Clear understanding of security principles, current exploits, and server patching (vulnerabilities).

  • CISSP certification preferred for risk assessment proficiency.

  • Familiarity with Black Kite preferred.

  • Ability to work onsite one day per week with potential flexibility for the ideal candidate.
