SUMMARY: Lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building and bridge parts by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding. Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding. Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment. Assembles parts by bolting. Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts. Cleaning of work areas. Maintain weld equipment and supplies. Completing daily time sheets, QC inspection sheets, and any other paperwork required for the area. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Certified through NYS DOT. Valid forklift license or the ability to pass a written and hands on test for procuring future licensing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Metatarsal and steel toed boots, hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, welding gloves, helmet, welding apron, sleeves, or jacket. Hard hat where required. Additional equipment where conditions warrant.
