Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)

Shift: Shift 3

Work Schedule: 8 Hr (11:00:00 PM - 7:00:00 AM)

Summary:

Responsible for day to day operations of front line employees. Tours facility daily to ensure work schedules and project work is carried out according to hospital policy. Performs Quality Inspections to ensure that prescribed standards are met. Also maintaining sanitary conditions by cleaning, sweeping waxing, and stripping, buffing, mopping and removing trash throughout the hospital / medical office building. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

• Analytical skills necessary in order to organize and inspect work performance of housekeepers. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively lead a group of subordinate personnel.

• Able to use Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel)

• 1-3 years of Environmental Services supervision experience within a hospital organization.

• Able to understand and follow oral and written communication / instructions.

• Ability to communicate effectively. Ensure policies and procedures are being followed.

• Both computer and writing skills required (Microsoft Word and Excel). Analytical skills necessary in order to organize and inspect work performance of environmental services staff.

• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively lead a group.

• Ability to operate equipment such as burnishes, scrubbers, carpet equipment / extractors, vacuums, wet vacs.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

Physical Demands:

• Able to stand and walk 67-100% of working day to clean area schedule.

• Able to sit, climb or kneel 1-10% of working day to clean area schedule.

• Able to lift / move items 10-25lbs 11-33%, 25-50lbs 1-10% of working day to clean area schedule.

• Ability to bend, twist, reach, pull, push throughout daily work to complete assigned schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Prepares work area assignments and develops schedules. Coordinates schedules to ensure proper coverage and completion of all regularly cleaned areas with allowances for non-routine cleaning.

• Regularly answers pages and requests in a timely manner and delegates to appropriate personnel. Conducts follow-up to ensure requests are handled satisfactorily.

• Orients and trains new employees on environmental disciplinary when necessary.

• Evaluates department employees; recommend and perform discipline when necessary.

• Starts shifts by ensuring supplies and equipment are distributed correctly. Makes sure appropriate doors are unlocked to provide access to offices.

• Regularly conducts and documents inspections in all areas of the hospital. Conducts follow-up to ensure deficiencies are corrected. Makes recommendations for special cleaning and other maintenance requests.

• Regularly Observes Housekeeping Personnel’s work habits and retrains when necessary.

• Ensures proper maintenance and care of environmental equipment.

• Maintains inventory of supplies and chemicals.

• Completes necessary reports, inspection forms, incident reports and time sheets.

• Assists in planning major projects; coordinates and supervises these projects as required.

• Assists or completes other assigned duties.

• Ability to read and understand policies to ensure that procedures are being followed. Written skills required to develop work schedules.

• Analytical skills necessary in order to organize and inspect work performance of housekeepers.

• Must have the skills and knowledge to work as an Environmental Aide I or Aide II approximately 50% of the time.

• Sweeps, dust mops, and wet mops.

• Vacuums, spot cleans, shampoos, and extracts carpeted surfaces.

• Scrub and strip floors by operating various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical, (i.e. buffers, wringers, scrubbers, vacuums, etc).

• Cleans assigned areas by washing walls, walls windows and glass partitions.

• Cleans equipment and notifies lead person of equipment requiring repair. Reports safety hazards to lead person or manager.

• Climbs ladders to hang cubicle curtains, window drapes, valences and other room or window treatment.

• Collects trash from all areas of the offices. Responsible for sanitizing large containers and maintaining compactor area clean and sanitized.

• Collects and transports potentially infectious material waste in as established by Infection Control Committee.

Arranges furniture for meetings, workshops, and other hospital- wide functions.

• Assists in cleaning of emergency spills observed or reported.

Performs and other tasks which may be assigned.
