M.S. Walker Business Application Support Engineer in Norwood, Massachusetts

M.S. Walker, a fine wine and spirits distributor, is seeking a Business Application Support Engineer (BASE) to join the IT service desk with hands-on experience administering legacy applications and modern digital tools supporting multiple departments. The Engineer will also participate in the design, development, and support of business reporting and analytical dashboards.

The preferred working hours are 10am – 6pm with a primary office location in Norwood, MA. The Engineer will have an option to work remotely, or at a satellite office in Rhode Island or New Hampshire, two days per week. Travel to other regional offices may be required to achieve departmental goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Understand, document, and rationalize the ‘bolt-on’ and ‘stand-alone’ application and tools portfolio.

  • Assume hands-on administration role for ‘bolt-on’ and ‘stand-alone’ applications so to troubleshoot and provide resolution of triaged business application service requests.

  • Develop learning paths and train business applications and technology tools.

  • Create application support knowledge articles for technology service desk.

  • Monitor and verify delivery for external data feeds

  • Monitor and verify data accuracy within foundational system databases and availability for reporting.

  • Design, develop, and support business analytical dashboards using tools such as Microsoft Office and Power BI.

Administering Legacy Applications and Data Integrations

(70%) Production Application Support

  • Support all sales order entry, fleet routing, warehouse management, transportation management, and warehouse control systems.

  • Monitor and support legacy systems data export and external file delivery.

  • Support business report delivery, analytical dashboards, and availability of data.

  • Support document and content management systems.

(30%) Digital Tools Configuration and Support

  • Administer the Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Support the integrations for Human Resource Information System (HRIS).

  • Support modernized telecommunication solution and integrated systems.

  • Perform content management updates and administer Sharepoint sites.

  • Participate and contribute to the analysis, design, implementation, and administrative support of new digital tools.

Requirements

Knowledge:

  • Service desk triage and processing of prioritized requests.

  • Understands the importance of learning management and how to apply learning paths for workforce development.

  • Understands the feasibility of applications in terms of scope, level of effort, and over-all cost to support.

  • Understands in-house capabilities and when to designate tasks to a third-party vendor to improve delivery quality, time, and overall efficiencies.

  • General data modeling, reporting and business analytical design.

Skills:

  • Exceptional use of various digital tools, including Microsoft Office and Sharepoint.

  • Capable of learning new applications and the administrative responsibility of a system administrator.

  • Demonstrates the ability to assemble, analyze, and evaluate data for business decision making.

  • Capable of creating, designing, and administering a learning management solution.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong team player and demonstrates interpersonal skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to listen to business concerns and respond with appropriate answers.

  • Ability to work independently or with a team depending on the task.

  • Ability to prioritize what’s important to the business.

  • Ability to adjust work schedule to meet with key business leaders.

  • Jazzed to learn new digital tools and support a developing applications landscape.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s or associate degree. In lieu of education, a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience is required.

  • Microsoft Power BI certificate or equivalent experience.

  • Industry specific training or certification(s).
