About the Position

As an Automotive and Diesel Mechanic with First Transit, serving Chenango County Transit, you will help maintain and repair our fleet of E-450s, passenger cars, and other large buses to ensure customer safety. Other major job duties include:

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.
• Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair including brakes, suspensions, engines, drivetrains, transmissions, and other repairs.
• Ensure work orders are completed accurately.
• Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary.

Qualifications for the Automotive and Diesel Mechanic

• Valid driver’s license required.
  • CDL B is highly preferred, but we will train non-CDL holders
• 1 - 3 years of automotive or diesel maintenance & repair employment experience or a combination of technical school education & experience.
• Mechanic’s toolset
• ASE certifications preferred. Must be willing to participate in company ASE certification program (company training, testing, and bonuses provided!
• Be subject to a drug test.

• Up to $20.91 hourly wage based on Union Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• $2,500 sign-on* bonus!
• An additional $.15 per hour for each primary ASE certification you possess in your chosen category
  • At this location, First Transit will pay a $.20 cents per hour premium for Master Certified in your chosen category
  • ASE Master Certified technicians will receive a $.10 cents per hour premium on all other ASE tests that have been passed.
• All employees at this location will be paid weekly!
• At this location, technicians will receive 80 hours of PTO upon hire!
• Attendance award bonus program!
• Six paid holidays
  • New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
• Three personal days annually, upon hire!

  • First Transit pays 80% of the cost of your single medical or dental benefits offered.
  • First Transit also pays the equivalent of 80% of the best single plan offered towards the cost of any of the two-person or family plans offered.
• Two possible full-time shifts available, and they are 6:00am - 2:30pm or 2:30pm - 10:30pm
• Annual tool reimbursement up to $500!

• Annual allowances for boots and prescription safety glasses
• Ongoing company training on a state-of-the-art online system
• Work with paperless shop technology on tablets!
