Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Principal Systems Engineer (Weapon Systems) to join the Advanced Programs team to develop complex, next generation, state of the art weapon systems. This will be located at our Northridge, CA. site.

You will be a member of a high performing, systems engineering team interacting with customers, program management, cross-functional teams of engineers and senior technologists. In this role as a Principal Systems Engineer (Weapon Systems) the selected candidate will serve as the Guidance Electronics Sensor Analyst for the SiAW Program. This role requires the candidate to function in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment.

This position includes the execution of all aspects of the Guidance Electronics Sensor & Integration Team including sensor subsystem design, data analyses, interface verification, testing and failure/anomaly resolution, for the Stand-in Attack Weapon missile system development, including seekers, radome apertures and signal processing.

This is an on-site position.

Role Description & Responsibilities:

  • Guidance Electronics Sensor Analyst for the SiAW Program functioning in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Execute Guidance Section subsystem design, data analyses, interface verification, testing and failure/anomaly resolution.

  • Familiarity with system requirements in the Requirements Management databases (DOORS).

  • Develop test plans and procedures as a team effort and support the testing and verification of components and subsystems of Guidance Electronics. Provide data for and supporting risk management (identifies potential risks) and trade study processes.

  • Regularly interface with the Product Owner, Scrum Master, other team members and team members on other teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or aerospace engineering or similar, with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience; Master's degree with three (3) years of related experience; PhD with zero (0) years of related experience. (Functional Manager to Update)

  • ** Current Active DoD Secret clearance or higher with a Periodic Reinvestigation within the last 5 years.

  • Must have extensive experience and knowledge of RF Sensors, radar signal processing system integration.

  • Must have extensive experience in integration and testing of multiple subsystems.

  • Must have analytical skills and experience with data analysis and aggregation and presentation of the results to internal and military customers.

  • Must have strong technical problem solving, written and verbal communication skills to work with Guidance Electronics requirements and performance assessments and execute component and system level verification, data review activities and requirements gap analyses.

  • Willing to occasionally work during odd hours (nights/weekends) and occasionally longer than normal (40 hrs/wk) to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in aerospace systems; basic understanding of aircraft systems, missile systems, avionics, software systems, and their design drivers

  • Experience in Active Seekers and Active Seeker Integration and/or

  • Passive Sensor and Passive Sensor Integration.

  • Experience in Air-to-Ground Missile Systems.

  • A strong resolve to drive tasks to completion autonomously as team effort.

  • A strong experience base in Component Testing, Subsystem Testing and Flight Testing and the Development of Test Plans and Procedures.

Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
