The Medical Assistant works under supervision of various providers in an outpatient clinic setting providing basic and routine assistance with client care delivery within the medical assistant scope of practice in accordance with Agency policies, practices and procedures and applicable regulations. Performs administrative support functions with front desk, and certain clinical duties under supervision of clinic Psychiatrist/APN. Duties include answer phones, welcoming consumers, check in preparation for visit, collection of copayments, assist with obtaining medical information and verifying consumer information, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, insurance certifications/prior authorizations, refill of medications, and coordinating with supervisor and prescribers. Prepares routine materials, proofreads, verifies and edits all materials for accuracy and clarity. Per Psychiatrist/APN, performs interviews as indicated to obtain clinical information, record medical history, vital statistics, and other pertinent information including test results in medical records. Authorizes drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies as authorized by prescriber. Prepares and administers medications as directed by Psychiatrist/APN. Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets or other prescriber instructions to consumers. Assists prescriber with examinations/treatment/equipment and inventory including giving injections or performing drug/laboratory test collection.

    Education/Experience:

    High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a medical assisting program recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Active certification by Association of Medical Assistants. Certifications required: CPR, First Aid. Completion of externship required. At least six months’ experience as Certified Medical Assistant preferred. Must be able to type at least 40 wpm. Computer knowledge required with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred. Customer service, writing and communication skills.
