    This is a hybrid position with an expectation to be onsite at least 1 day per week. We are unable to offer relocation assistance.

    Brief Description: The Senior Infrastructure & Operations Engineer performs leadership, analysis, design, and implementation tasks related to the development of infrastructure solutions at the College of American Pathologists. This individual is responsible for engineering infrastructure solution design and ensuring these solutions fit with architectural standards, operational standards, best practices, and the IS roadmap . This individual also possesses a strong operational understanding of both cloud and on-premises systems and solutions and plays an important role in defining the long-term strategy for infrastructure services and solutions.

    Specific Duties: Primary duties and responsibilities include defining, documenting, communicating, and managing the execution of the CAP’s infrastructure technical strategy, standards, and roadmaps; using various tools to design, orchestrate, and automate infrastructure solutions; identifying, standardizing, and guiding the implementation of cloud and on-premise platforms, processes, and tools; and providing technical expertise, direction, and solutions related to cloud-based services, processes, and tools.

    Knowledge/Skills Required/Preferred:

  • Personal skills include strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to effectively work within team structures, and strong customer service orientation.

  • Professional skills include the ability to lead, analyze and translate business needs into solution architecture requirements, knowledge of all components of a holistic enterprise architecture, and strong business acumen. Strong project, planning, and support skills is also required .

  • Technical skills include experience deploying and operating on public cloud and on-premises platforms, demonstrated experience with Linux, Windows Operating Systems , virtualization and containerization platforms like VMware and Docker, common infrastructure industry t ools such as Ansible and Cloud Formation , enterprise networking platforms like Cisco ACI and Palo Alto, experience with Active Directory, Entra ID, M365, and experience with storage concepts and technologies like NetApp and Pure Storage .

    Education/Experience: A bachelor’s degree in computer science /business or proven equivalent work experience is required . At least 7 years h ands-on experience with cloud architectures and on-premises infrastructure solutions is also required with a minimum of 2 years in a lead role .

    Additional Criteria: Subject to 24-hour on call for production and operational difficulties as well as scheduled weekend work for releases and maintenance activities . Minimal travel to attend training, seminars, or other events. Able to be present at the main (headquarters) location in Northfield, IL as well as the Data Center located in Elk Grove, IL whenever required.
