In addition to accrediting clinical laboratories to both CLIA and the ISO 15189 standard, the CAP also accredits forensic drug testing, reproductive, and biorepository facilities.

    The Senior Director, Strategic Sourcing and Procurement (the Senior Director) is responsible for directing and overseeing all aspects of strategic sourcing, procurement, commercial contracting, and travel management/meeting planning, in alignment with the overall strategies and prioritized needs of the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The departments under the Senior Director’s leadership serve as strategic partners to the broader CAP organization and successfully cultivate and manage a complex supply chain for a mid-sized global enterprise, minimizing costs, mitigating risk, and capturing value.

    The Senior Director works independently, employing a strategic focus and a diverse skill set including demonstrated knowledge of strategic sourcing and procurement best practices, knowledge of markets and regulations, contract review and negotiation, quality, and performance improvement techniques to arrive at appropriate decision points and achieve desired near- and long-term business objectives.

    The Senior Director leads and develops a diverse team of four senior managers/managers, and indirectly nearly 20 professional staff and 3 third-party agents, to ensure high level of engagement, partnership, productivity, and accountability. The Senior Director models the key behavioral and performance attributes that guide CAP employees, including the Leadership Values of Partnership, Respect, Accountability, Communication, and Excellence. The Senior Director embraces, encourages, and models inclusive leadership with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in all hiring and staff decisions.

    Ideal candidates will have 10+ years of well-rounded procurement/strategic sourcing/risk management experience in positions of increasing responsibility. Leadership-level experience with specialization in the in vitro diagnostics market or adjacent industry strongly preferred. Candidate will also have 5+ years of leadership and people management experience with the ability to motivate and provide professional development of a team of senior level direct reports. They must have demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective business plans with actionable and measurable tactics, cultivate complex supply chain to be able to meet evolving business needs, and anticipate and mitigate risk.

    Strong business and financial acumen; excellent analytic and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to assess a situation, interpret data, identify alternatives, and think critically. Excellent communication and influencing ability across diverse audiences of internal and external stakeholders. Bachelor’s degree required, with a preferred emphasis in business administration, finance, supply chain management or related discipline. Master’s degree in business with a focus in supply chain management preferred. Prior MWDBE (Minority Women Disadvantaged Business Entities) experience a bonus. Some domestic travel, including some weekends, is required for the position.
