Josselyn Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Northfield, Illinois

Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, and treatment including prescribing psychotropic medication to all patients assigned to them as well as providing medication education to support staff.

Essential Responsibilities and Metrics

  • Providing psychiatric evaluations including:

  • Chief complaint

  • History of present illness

  • Past history of psychiatric illness

  • Relevant medical history

  • Drug and alcohol screening

  • Social, family, and developmental history

  • Full mental status exam

  • Assessment/Diagnosis Axis I through Axis V (DSM-IV)

  • Prescribing of psychotropic medications and follow-up care of clients to monitor medications

  • Recommend facilitation of other medical care if needed and coordinate with other medical pro

  • Provides high-quality service and maintains 70% of direct service hours per month

  • All Progress Notes will be entered into the medical record as soon as possible but in no more than three business days of the date of service

  • Prescription of psychotropic medication and follow‐up medication

  • Participation in the multi‐disciplinary approach to client care

  • Education of patient and families about the nature and course of illness, prognosis of the psychiatric disorder, and medications, including side effects (long & short term)

  • Recommend other therapies that may be helpful to patient

  • Completion of diagnostic evaluations in a reasonable timeframe

  • Provide crisis intervention as needed

  • Coordinate medical aspects of treatment with Nurse, Care Coordinator and Case Managers

  • Participate and provide supervision of the multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and provide consultation as needed

  • Maintain active role in treatment team or with staff

  • Seek supervision from supervising MD as appropriate

Qualifications:

  • Advance Practice degree with current license, Federal and State licenses to prescribe controlled substances/DEA #

  • Malpractice coverage is active at a minimum of $1,000,000 / $3,000,000 per center requirements
