    Brief Description

    The Editor I is responsible for:

  • Carrying out editorial functions for the proficiency testing (PT) department. Edits assigned copy and proofreads kit materials.

  • Content decisions pertaining to copy within the PT materials, partnering with technical staff as appropriate.

  • Maintaining a high degree of accuracy in area of expertise.

    Specific Duties

    Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Edits and proofreads technical copy and other CAP documents for clarity, readability, and consistency, while maintaining department deadlines.

  • Makes recommendations designed to streamline product for customer use by effectively communicating and taking an active role in meetings.

  • Proofreads technical copy and other company forms for accuracy, grammatical correctness, format, placement of text, functionality.

  • Verifies medical terms, drug names, units of measure, reference citations with appropriate technical staff, and proofs text for content flow.

  • Recognizes and implements quality assurance checks related to content and process efficiency and advises team members on related matters.

  • Ensures that all appropriate changes are made to kit materials accurately, meeting specified deadlines. Contacts technical specialists or other parties if a program is running behind schedule.

  • Works with staff across the CAP to develop language for use in the kit instructions and result forms. Incorporates all global changes and standard language made to forms each year.

  • Must have extensive knowledge of PT product components and be able to distinguish between special needs of a product and author preference. Independently resolves content issues and counsels technical staff when necessary. Resolves issues between author requests and production time constraints.

  • Clarifies author requests for layout staff.

  • Negotiates approval of edited copy and incorporates last minute revisions.

  • Must understand how changes to format and content of forms affect data capture, RF response definition, and form programming.

  • Communicates with vendors through emails and incorporates their changes into the kit instructions and result forms.

  • Completes print shop requests and sends PT materials to print on time.

  • Maintains knowledge of PT web pages and content, proofreads, and edits copy, and submits routine web requests.

  • Participates in PT program meetings and writes customer-facing communications, as needed.

    Education

  • College degree required. Editorial course of study preferred.

    Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in related environment.

  • Knowledge of scientific concepts, medical terminology, and AMA style helpful.

    This role is based out of the Northfield, IL headquarters and candidates must reside within a reasonable commute to the office.
