UL, LLC Senior Program Manager--Portfolio Lead in Northbrook, Illinois

The Senior Program Manager is responsible for the coordination, prioritization, and management of an enterprise project portfolio. The Sr. Program Manager leads the input of strategic enterprise projects into the Enterprise Project Management project pipeline. They provide governance, oversight and coaching on complex, strategic programs. The Sr. Program Manager helps deliver the right initiatives at the right time to achieve desired outcomes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate the intake process for large, strategic, and complex programs. Ensures visibility into projects scope while identifying cross project dependencies/risks. Works to identify, address, and/or eliminate project constraints.

  • Leads the development and management of a project portfolio roadmap. Serves as the initial prioritization point. Negotiate with key leaders and stakeholders on priority related project issues.

  • Interacts with the IT/Digital/Security teams to ensure alignment across the Transformation and Innovation organization. Provides visibility into who is doing what, and what is being delivered by when.

  • Acts as first-line contact on project portfolio related activities and issues. Manages the project portfolio pipeline and takes corrective measures as needed.

  • Interfaces with C-Suite Executives, Business Unit Leaders, Finance, Accounting, T&I, and other ULS teams as needed. Assist in aligning projects as they relate to overall ULS business strategy. Assist in the alignment of projects given all key change factors including resource, budget, and compliance constraints.

  • Monitors the portfolio’s progress against commitments and reports on progress. Provides oversight on the project portfolio budget, resource needs and schedules.

  • Manages stakeholders’ communications/updates regarding portfolio status and health.

  • Defines and enforces the project portfolio governance (controls).

  • May manage the performance of matrixed direct reports by defining accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing feedback, and escalating issues as needed.

  • Performs other duties as directed.

  • Minimum 10 years of program/project management experience

  • Demonstrated blend of strategic, operational and implementation thinking.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability including the ability to influence, advise, and manage cross functional stakeholders at all organizational levels.

  • Adept at coordinating cross geographical projects.

  • Ability to manage matrixed teams from various internal and external organizations across multiple locations.

  • Must have excellent product, program, and project management skills. Experience in leading complex technical projects with aggressive schedules.

  • Ability to lead a change-based culture assisting stakeholders across the organization manage in a change-based environment. Promote innovative ideas and accept the risks required to lead change.

  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems independently. Make quality judgements and decisions related to the portfolio and its impacts to the organization.

  • Effective consultative and influencing without direct authority skills. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Solid foundation on latest IT/Digital technologies to be able to understand interdependences and drive towards coordinated business/technical solutions.

  • Strong understanding of financial principles including budgeting, capital allocation and business case preparation/analysis.

  • PMP/Agile certification is a plus
