UL, LLC Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting & Consolidations in Northbrook, Illinois

This role is hybrid on-site (3) days a week in Northbrook or Chicago, IL

Reporting to the Global Accounting Director, the Corporate Accounting & Consolidations Senior Manager leads the consolidation of UL’s global financial results of 150+ legal entities using Oracle’s Cloud EPM Platform. This role has two direct reports and leads a team of 5 employees. The main focus is to ensure the accurate reporting of consolidated financial results, to participate in the preparation of monthly and quarterly analytical reviews, and to manage the team that performs intercompany accounting and eliminations. Additionally, this role manages the Financial Systems Support team.

  • Lead the monthly consolidation process for 150+ legal entity consolidation, including managing the global intercompany process and review of monthly US GAAP consolidated results.

  • Responsible for important close-related tasks including managing the global close calendar, reviewing consolidation journal entries, performing analytical reviews of monthly and quarterly financial results, and maintaining internal controls.

  • Manage and develop a Corporate Accounting Center of Excellence.

  • Collaborate with FP&A, Regional Accounting, Internal Audit, Corporate staff departments, external auditors, and other important members of UL’s Chief Accounting Officer’s organization.

  • Lead multiple Corporate Finance & Accounting projects to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the financial close process.

  • Lead ad hoc projects including IT enhancements for the financial and management reporting processes, analysis of business operations, proposed accounting treatment of unusual transactions or other accounting and finance related matters.

  • Review subsidiary and consolidated financial information and unusual transactions and lead meetings discussing analysis with Finance & Accounting leadership.

  • Oversee the global chart of accounts including managing updates for proper rollup to the financial statements and coordinating with other impacted departments.

  • Review monthly account reconciliations for key accounts as assigned.

  • Perform monthly analysis of foreign exchange transactions.

  • Work with audit functions to develop and improve internal policies to ensure compliance with SOX framework.

  • Manage the performance of direct reports by developing accountabilities, establishing performance goals, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance and ensuring that all policies are understood and followed.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s or Masters’s degree in Accounting required; US CPA strongly preferred

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, 6+ years of experience with corporate consolidations required.

  • Multinational global environment company experience required.

  • Must possess a high degree of technical knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls over financial reporting. SOX compliance experience required.

  • Experience with the implementation, development/enhancement and maintenance of large ERP platforms and accounting systems is required, Oracle FCCS experience is strongly preferred.

  • Strong experience managing professional staff.

  • Public accounting experience preferred.

  • Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel, familiarity with SmartView or other Excel add-in tools for querying EPM data is a plus.

  • Experience with BI Reporting and/or building dashboards is a plus.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to influence and message accounting close needs to a global audience.

  • Flexibility to work outside of US business hours to support subsidiaries across the globe.

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $130,000-170,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
