We seek a skilled and passionate Sr. Systems Development Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining our diverse range of technologies and applications. The ideal candidate will excel at identifying and resolving issues, automating processes, maintaining service infrastructure, and collaborating closely with cross-departmental teams to achieve business objectives while upholding the highest standards of platform security, reliability, and supportability. Experience with Windows, Linux, and cloud platforms such as AWS, particularly in large-scale, distributed environments, is highly valued.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of highly-scalable and resilient solutions on AWS.

  • Lead technical projects with meticulous attention to detail, delivering results on time and within budget.

  • Champion security best practices, implement remediation procedures, and apply critical application updates.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues within the platform and applications, ensuring optimal performance and stability.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation for application-related incidents, providing timely and effective resolution.

  • Create, analyze, and improve code to meet evolving business needs.

  • Produce comprehensive and user-friendly technical and support documentation.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement, cost savings, and growth within enterprise systems.

About the team

We deploy, maintain, and support commercial off-the-shelf applications that enable Amazon Robotics to scale operations and quickly respond to changes in the market. We design our solutions to be flexible and adaptable, so they can evolve as our customers' needs change. We accomplish this by employing a diverse group of engineers with expertise in multiple platforms, and with a focus on customer obsession, innovation, and transformation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience with Windows PowerShell, Linux Shell, or similar scripting language.

  • 10+ years of Windows or Linux Server administration.

  • 7+ years of experience in architecting new or existing systems for reliability, scalability, and optimal performance.

  • 5+ years of experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational database technologies.

  • 5+ years of experience working in virtualization or cloud environments.

  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols.

  • Strong understanding of IT security concepts and principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working on large-scale distributed systems.

  • 3+ years of experience with AWS services, such as VPC, EC2, S3, RDS, and SES/SMTP.

  • 3+ years of experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Proficient in a modern programming language such as Python, Java, or C/C++.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
