Amazon Software Development Engineer , Amazon Robotics (AR) Sortation Planning in North Reading, Massachusetts

As a Software Development Engineer on the AR Sortation Planning team, you will design, develop and deploy full-stack robotic workcell solutions using AWS that are scalable, reliable and performant. You will build software solutions to improve sortation at scale, improve associate safety and ergonomics, associate job satisfaction, and site efficiency. You will build simulation models and digital twins of these robotic systems and provide our scientists, researchers and engineers the tools they need to develop and optimize robotic components, workflows and systems. We collaborate cross-functionally with machine learning and robotic controls experts to develop pioneering applications in a highly exciting and innovative environment.

Key job responsibilities

Build scalable, flexible and maintainable software solutions to innovative robotics technology integration problems.

Work with peers of diverse backgrounds and experiences to solve challenging problems in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Fast-paced, high-octane ownership of end-to-end solutions with a focus on working directly with stakeholders, customers and teammates.

Maintenance, implementation and deployment of existing software services in Production with established customer bases, requiring adopting and adhering to metrics, alarms and operational excellence.

About the team

We have a talented, innovative and diverse team that works on cutting edge software driving human and robotic workflows, UI interfaces, AWS services at middle-mile Sortation centers within the Amazon Transportation Services network. We build algorithms to optimize sortation rates, improve safety and ergonomics, delight our associates, build simulations for our new robotic solutions, all while operating at Amazon scale.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

  • 2+ years of full stack development experience

  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Master's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

  • Experience building and maintaining applications with JVM-based languages, such as Java, Kotlin, Scala.
