AbbVie Analytical Research & Development (Analytical R&D) is a global analytical scientific organization responsible for all CMC analytical activities related to the development of AbbVie's pharmaceutical products. For the Senior Scientist II position, we are seeking a highly motivated candidate who can conceive, implement and execute novel scientific research and development. Generate new scientific proposals and lead these efforts. Act as a lead scientist in his/her area of expertise and critically evaluate relevant scientific and regulatory advances and integrate this knowledge into research and development programs.
This position will be within Analytical R&D’s Screening Lab, which functions as a high-throughput method screening and development group that serves a diverse set of stakeholders and impacts all pipeline programs. The Screening Lab is seeking a Separations Scientist with experience in chromatographic method development for small molecules and biologics. An ideal candidate would have hands-on experience developing methods and troubleshooting difficult separations related challenges. Additionally, He/she should possess an understanding of core discipline and support early phase development of New Chemical Entities (NCEs) drug substance and drug product for both preclinical and clinical programs.
An ideal candidate will have pharma related project lead experience and have a proven track record of developing novel approaches for method development and solutions for difficult separations. Additional experience with advanced CDS control, process chromatography, and automation is desirable. In this dynamic and fast-paced environment, your expertise and insight will ensure that robust and reliable methods enable pipeline projects.
Responsibilities:
Support high-throughput platform screening capabilities for separation-based assays for small-molecules and biologics (Chiral, Achiral, HILIC, SFC, 2DLC, HIC, IEX, SEC, etc.)
Development of stability indicating methods using a variety of analytical separation (HPLC/UHPLC) and detection modes (UV, MS, CAD) for active pharmaceutical ingredients.
Employ chromatographic modeling software (Fusion, Drylab, Chromsword, etc.) for method development and robustness.
Apply analytical separation and detection modes for complex impurity profiling of pharmaceutical products to further the understanding of emerging cGMP manufacturing processes.
Perform assay qualifications to establish specificity, sensitivity, linear range, precision, robustness, and accuracy of test methods.
Responsible for leading the analytical aspects of a project while working with other functional areas to advance projects through the development pipeline from preclinical to clinical candidates.
Utilize understanding of a range of analytical techniques to conduct research and development studies related to small-molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates, starting materials, impurities along with pre-clinical to clinical formulations.
Communicate and collaborate with cross-functional groups and departments.
Expected to evaluate novel technology approaches and build scientific profile both internally and externally in terms of pipeline contributions and scholarly achievements.
Contribute to writing of publications, presentations, and patents.
Qualifications
Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry typically with a minimum of 12 (BS), 10 (MS), or 4 (Ph.D.) years related industry experience.
Strong technical background in analytical chemistry, excellent analytical problem-solving skills. Capable of independently developing and troubleshooting analytical methods.
Hands on experience with HPLC analysis and method development along with expertise and fundamental understanding of spectroscopic techniques.
Possesses a strong understanding of fundamental properties and theory of chromatography.
Experience in the use of computerized data handling systems.
Practical knowledge of organic structure, functional groups, chemistry, and modern spectroscopic techniques as applied to small-molecule analytical analysis.
Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.
Proven, hands-on experience in the development of novel complex analytical methods

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

Salary: $103,500 - $197,000
