AbbVie's Biologics Discovery Sciences group is on the hunt for a passionate and skilled Senior Scientist to join our innovative team in North Chicago, IL. About the Role:
As a Senior Scientist in our dynamic core team, you will focus on the purification of bispecific candidates, ensuring they exhibit suitable purity and characteristics to support advancement into in vitro studies (i.e. drug-like property assays, binding, cell-based assays, etc) and in vivo studies (i.e. efficacy, non-GLP NHP PK, DRF, etc). We are looking for an independent, driven scientist to champion chromatography efforts to overcome the challenges associated with purifying bispecific proteins. Your expertise will drive the design and execution of process development strategies that address production liabilities and ensure future process scalability. You will engage in intensive analytical characterization of molecules (end-products/process-intermediates) and extensive methods development to identify and remove process and product related-impurities.
Key Responsibilities:
Purification of bispecific candidates at scales ranging from 1g to 200g.
Design and execute process development strategies to overcome purification challenges.
Perform intensive analytical characterization of molecules, end-products, by-products, and process intermediates.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance drug discovery projects.
Document and report data with precision, ensuring rigorous scientific communication.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Position will be hired based on level of experience – Senior Scientist I or Senior Scientist II
BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field with typically 10-12+ years (BS), 8-10+ years (MS), or 0-4+ years (Ph.D.).
Expertise in all standard bioprocess steps and preparative chromatography techniques, including software systems (Unicorn, Chromeleon, Empower).
Expertise in AKTA chromatography systems.
Understanding of molecular- and post-translational protein attributes and their role in protein function.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address issues such as solubility and aggregation.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Experience in instrumentation automation is preferred.
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling weights of more than 20 lbs/9 kgs is required.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.

Salary: $103,500 - $197,000
