Summary The position is located in the Facility Management Department (FMD) of the Facility Support. Directorate located in the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago lllnois. The James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center is larger than just a single facility, but rather a system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois which provide medical care and dental services to U.S. Military Veterans, .Recruits, Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries. Responsibilities The purpose of the work is to perform a variety of tasks related to the operation, maintenance and repair of the electronic HVAC systems utilized at this facility. The scope and effect of the results of the duties described herein are wide and, in many cases, critical to the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of this medical center as a whole. Properly operating ventilation systems are not appreciated until they are missing. Major Duties: Perform as station expert on all ·types of complex control systems including electrical/electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic-based controls. Establish and maintain documentation files for all systems. This documentation includes drawings, programs, sequences of operation, preventive maintenance records, and machinery history records. Field check and mark up control and associated drawings of existing systems for Engineering Draftsman to update. Critique current HVAC-maintenance practices and recommend improvements. Recommend HVAC upgrade projects Provide technical assistance and project support for proposed and on-going renovation and construction of systems with controls. Interface with outside manufacturers in the repair of failed systems and installation and checkout of new systems. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Work assignments require moderate physical effort. The employee frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise handles items weighing up to 40 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. The work is performed in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is required. Occasional climbing and work in high places may be required. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. The employee is subjected to injuries, such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy or soldering irons.
