Job Description

A senior level engineering professional responsible for leading large global strategic engineering programs, process design and equipment selection for major capital projects, contributing to development of engineering standards and specifications and coordinating engineering support to the global manufacturing network in a matrix-based cross-functional environment. This role partners closely with PDS&T and R&D colleagues to evaluate and drive adoption of new and innovative platform technologies at our manufacturing Sites. Provides global guidance on activities related to equipment selection, process design, potent drug containment, industry technology trends and assists with 3rd party partner engineering evaluation and support. This position is part of the Global Engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a global team of process engineering SMEs with technical expertise across a breadth of manufacturing technologies including API, OSD, Biologics, Aseptic Filling and Medical Devices. Works closely with the project execution team in ensuring process equipment meets AbbVie and applicable Regulatory standards and budgetary requirements

  • Responsible for development of and compliance with procedures and engineering standards for process equipment design and procurement. Ensures quality and effectiveness of process engineering for major projects through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fallback strategies.

  • Manages multiple, often concurrent global projects/programs and consistently meets expectations. Makes difficult decisions regarding priorities across projects/programs. Anticipates and understands the business needs and has a thorough knowledge of customer strategic needs and global challenges when developing a project/program scope.

  • Aligns with corporate goals and critical business objectives when setting strategies for process design and equipment selection including consideration of sensorization and automation, energy and sustainability and drives technology consistency across the manufacturing sites.

  • Leads and contributes to the development of long-term business and organizational priorities such as the Human Error Reduction (HER) and Facilities Improvement Team (FIT) programs.

  • Integrates experiences and approaches from multiple projects / disciplines to develop the best solutions for the business. Works actively with manufacturing sites to ensure alignment of best practices across similar sites and provides technical support for equipment challenges.

  • Proactively advises and shares technical knowledge and opinions with senior leadership and contributes to development of Global Engineering priorities and strategy.

  • Identifies and develops key engineering talent both within the SME group and at the manufacturing site level to enable technical talent growth and effective succession planning for Engineering.

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of global engineering standards and specifications for the corporation.

  • Collaborates with PDS&T and R&D partners in evaluation of new and innovative technologies for potential implementation within the manufacturing network.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related scientific discipline is required, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 15+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience.

  • A career history marked by a consistent series of significant contributions and accomplishments in Bio/Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, or other Health Care related industry.

  • Experience working with and leading global teams spanning multiple countries and cultures.

  • Technical experience across a breadth of different manufacturing technologies including Aseptic Filling, Oral Solid Dosage (OSD), Chemical (API), Biologics and Medical Devices. Preferred candidates will have career experience across 2+ different technologies.

  • Proven ability to build relationships and lead across diverse cross-functional groups including internal and external collaborators

  • Listens to and understands others’ points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one’s own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.

  • Works well with other technical SMEs in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment.

  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences, while optimizing overall organizational goals.

  • Consistently demonstrated competency with financial systems and fiscal control. Understanding and management of procurement & contracting processes.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​

Salary: $172,000 - $326,500
