The Propulsion South Carolina (PSC) team within Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking an Experienced Industrial Engineer to support our team in North Charleston, SC.

The PSC Industrial Engineering team is an organization of highly skilled women and men responsible for applying industrial engineering techniques and concepts to optimize production system design, operational efficiency and after-market services for nacelle structures including the 737MAX inlet, B-52 commercial engine replacement program nacelle, 787 engine build up & installation, and future nacelle production systems. Responsibilities include: developing and using process analysis and measurement techniques to evaluate and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of resources; presenting performance data and recommendations to management for resource allocation decisions; analyzing the impact of process changes to assure accuracy of budget projections; developing and applying labor standards to production orders; developing shop floor layouts; coordinating with affected organizations to ensure resource availability.

The PSC organization is the Boeing center of excellence for design and build of nacelle structures. We support numerous Boeing models across all phases of the lifecycle from technology development to developmental programs to sustaining production to maintenance, repair & overhaul. These models include the 737MAX, 777X, 787, the B-52 Engine Replacement, as well as new airplanes and technologies in development.

A successful candidate in this role will have passion, creativity, and an insatiable desire for process improvement and efficiency. They will also have a strong desire to be out in the factory, interacting with mechanics and other engineers, directly supporting the production system. Experience in data analytics and associated software tools is highly preferred. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Applies basic industrial engineering concepts, approaches and techniques to product, process and services to meet program requirements.

  • Supports the development of plant and equipment layouts, capacity plans, accident prevention measures, sequencing of operations and work flows.

  • Participates in the evaluation of new techniques and technological developments for integration into the production process and service operations.

  • Assists with designing, maintaining, and optimizing the production system by integrating design, supply base, facilities, equipment, and personnel.

  • Conducts basic work flow design and analysis.

  • Develops simple models, databases and spreadsheets to analyze data and provides summary analysis and metrics for consultation to leaders.

  • Supports research, design, develop, improve, and implementation of processes and tools to enhance schedule performance, lower cost, and improve quality, for large scale systems integration and asset utilization.

  • Supports implementation plans and programs for facility/factory modifications and revisions to operating methods.

  • Documents product assembly instructions and standardizes assembly practices.

  • Supports the preparation of operations plans, includes work statement analysis, budgeting and forecasts, capacity and constraint analysis and production change, to ensure technical goals and objectives are met.

  • Supports execution planning by using project management, planning and scheduling and shop load practices. Provides production, supply chain logistics, performance visibility and recovery planning support.

  • Follows compliance requirements with established industry safety, design standards and ergonomic guidelines.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in course of study in industrial engineering or related field.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Data analytics

  • SQL

  • Python

  • Mini-tab or advanced excel

  • Experience in a high rate production environment (sub 2hr takt time)

  • Experience in aerospace production

  • Experience with scheduling in Enterprise Resource Planning systems

Typical Education/Experience:

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Experienced Level: $86,700- $117,300
