Generac Power Systems Firmware Engineer IV in North Billerica, Massachusetts

Generac Clean Energy is dedicated to delivering revolutionary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for our residential customers to improve energy reliability and grid independence. Generac Clean Energy is looking for a motivated Firmware Engineer with insatiable curiosity to help create next generation energy storage designs.

The Firmware Engineer IV is responsible for providing firmware for embedded controls systems used in new product development, new or enhancements to system features, and existing product firmware support where needed. This role will be specifically involved in helping the design and development of new controls and algorithms. The candidate should demonstrate outstanding technical and organizational skills and be passionate about bringing sustainable energy to the world.

Role is located in N. Billerica MA onsite 4 days with 1 day remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote excellence in software fundamentals, including architectural design, algorithm development, data structures, code modularity, and maintainability.

  • Develop, enhance and debug new and existing real-time firmware in C. Deliver high-quality code in a real-time embedded environment.

  • Drive firmware development for performance, scalability, robustness, and tight integration with the hardware.

  • Design safety rated firmware to meet functional safety standards such as UL1998 or IEC 61508.

  • Hands-on hardware bring up.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics or proof of exceptional skills in related fields with practical firmware engineering experience.

  • Minimum of 6+ years of relevant work experience

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience delivering top-quality C code in a real-time embedded environment.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience with Multithreaded or RTOS experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with test-driven development using unit testing, software in the loop (SIL), and hardware in the loop (HIL) methodologies. Our developers participate significantly in firmware testing, so a validation mindset is required.

  • Experience with communication interfaces on embedded systems such as RS-485, CAN, SPI, or I2C is desired.

  • Familiarity with electrical test tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.

  • Experience developing time-critical code using ADC, PWM for power controls, and battery management.

  • Python experience for supporting tools and data analysis.

  • Familiarity with a Unix environment.

  • Proficient in standard source control tools like Git.

  • Remain engaged, proactive, and positive when taking on challenging tasks, owning assignments, and taking accountability for personal and overall team success.

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
