SENIOR RECREATION ASSISTANT

Location: Norristown, PA

Status: Full time

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8 am to 430 pm, no weekends, nights or holidays

Position Purpose:

As the Senior Recreation Assistant, you will assist in creating, implementing and evaluation recreational activities for participants. You will also lead activities, enhancing participant experiences through socialization, physical activity and cognitive engagement.

What you will do:

  • Plan and execute activities for dementia-specific populations, including small groups and one-on-one sessions.

  • Lead group and individual activities to meet participants' cognitive, physical, social, and artistic needs.

  • Promote socialization, expansion of personnel interests, increased physical activity and continued lifelong learning.

  • Create and maintain activity care plans and monthly calendars.

  • Develop a quarterly newsletter for participants and caregivers.

  • Ensure recreational supplies are stocked and report participant status changes to medical staff.

  • Collaborate with personal care aides to ensure participant safety and comfort.

  • Assists in toileting/transporting participants as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in social or recreational programs with frail or elderly population.

  • Education or training in geriatrics, including dementia preferred.

  • Strong communication, organizational and conflict management skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite/ basic knowledge of e-mail/calendaring systems.

  • Ability to work independently and adapt to change.

  • Some travel within the region may be required.

  • Ability to change and be flexible with work priorities. Strong problem solving

  • skills.
