The school addresses the growing demand for a skilled workforce in the supply chain and logistics sector by offering a truly interdisciplinary approach to supply chain and maritime education which cross pollinates diverse career pathways in industry 4.0, maritime and military logistics, port and ship operations, cybersecurity, data science, and supply chain informatics/analytics, among others.
ODU’s locational proximity to the Port of Virginia, Naval Station Norfolk, NATO joint forces command, the highest concentration of shipbuilding and ship repair facilities in the country, and a broader nexus of support systems for these industries (warehouse and distribution centers, intermodal transportation) – is unparallel. Numerous national trucking companies and two Class I railroads enable freight services to almost two-thirds of the US population. Coastal Virginia is at the forefront of digital transformation, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, and advanced manufacturing, with a formidable presence in offshore wind and coastal resilience.
