Robert Half Staff Accountant in Norfolk, Virginia
Description We are searching for a skilled Staff Accountant to join our team in the Government sector, located in NORFOLK, Virginia. This role offers a contract to hire employment opportunity and involves managing financial reports, maintaining the general ledger, and ensuring accurate monthly closings.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the general ledger and trial balance to ensure accuracy and timely updates.
• Conduct month-end close procedures and account reconciliations.
• Generate and analyze financial reports, ensuring they align with industry standards.
• Employ Microsoft Excel for financial tasks and reporting.
• Monitor and manage accruals to ensure they are up-to-date and accurate.
• Maintain a high standard of financial reporting, adhering to government industry regulations.
• Use your knowledge of General Ledger and Financial Reporting to enhance accounting processes.
• Ensure all accounting tasks are conducted in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Assist with other accounting tasks as needed.
• Collaborate with other team members to ensure all financial operations run smoothly. Requirements • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a Staff Accountant role or similar financial position within a government agency or department
• Proficiency in General Ledger management and maintenance
• Demonstrated expertise in Financial Reporting and interpretation
• Solid experience in Account Reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial transactions
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, financial modeling, and report generation
• A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with large amounts of data
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with other departments, agencies, and stakeholders
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive financial information
• Knowledge of government financial regulations and standards is needed
• CPA certification or progress towards obtaining it would be an advantage
• Proactive, team-oriented, and able to work under tight deadlines.
