Hampton Roads Connector Partners OJT Carpenter in Norfolk, Virginia

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Dragados, VINCI, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $3.3bn Design Build project the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45 diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025.

The OJT (On the Job Training)programis an instruction program in which the traineereceivestraining by both observing others andhands-on experience completing tasks under the supervision of a managerorcoworker. The idea is to develop the skills and experience of anyone interested in any of the trade skills provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various carpentry tasks involving physical labor on highway, road, and bridge construction
  • Build forms for retaining walls, pipe and bridges
  • Responsible for forming, bracing and securing structure forms
  • Align plum forms
  • Bracing forms
  • Build forms for retaining walls, pipe and bridges
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs
  • Perform additional assignments as needed

Education/Experience

  • Minimal or no experience in this particular job category
  • Must be 18 years in age or older
  • Strongly prefer candidates with High School Diploma
  • Must pass drug screen
  • Able to communicate effectively with workers and subcontractors
  • Able to work overtime and be flexible with hours (day/night)
  • Must be able to communicate with others to convey information effectively.
  • Must be accustomed to working outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions
  • Must demonstrate attention to details
  • Must be knowledgeable of safety procedures and practices

  • Job requires climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, frequent lifting of extensions chutes, stretching, sitting/driving, shifting gears, and covering/uncovering load when applicable.
  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • Must be able to exert 10-20 lbs. constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally.
