Telespazio Belgium Liferay Front-End Developer in Noordwijk-Binnen, Netherlands

Telespazio Belgium can count on almost 40 years of experience in the field of Space Operations Service & Engineering activities.

On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a highly skilled Front-End Developer to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.

Background

A Telespazio team is responsible for providing technical IT services to the Science Directorate within ESA and is based out of both ESAC, Spain and ESTEC, Holland. The team works on-site for ESA and delivers cross-mission, centrally managed IT services to the teams supporting the various scientific satellite missions. These services include two Liferay portals delivering the web presence of the directorate. One of these portals has been effectively frozen for some time and needs redevelopment.

The team will be working on a new project to redevelop this web portal, and we now require a new team member to work with the existing Liferay portal experts based onsite for ESA in ESTEC, Holland.

What is expected from you:

  • The role will be for a front-end web developer with experience in developing enterprise level Liferay portals and web content. They will work closely with the 3 existing Liferay experts in the team and will primarily be responsible for transforming and redeveloping the existing portal into a platform with a modern look and feel. The candidate will also be involved in the evolution of the existing platform as we upgrade and migrate to a more modern version of Liferay.

  • The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with internal clients to design the global appearance of the web portal

  • Coding within the web portal using approriate programming languages

  • Building tools to improve the user experience on the web portal

  • Ensuring the websites are compatible with various devices, including laptops and smartphones

  • Developing and updating the web portal and its websites and user interfaces

  • Integrating multimedia elements into the web portal and its websites, such as applications, graphics, audio, and video

  • Regularly testing the websites for usability and quality

  • Resolving any issues or bugs within the web portal

What you offer:

  • Master's degree or equivalent qualification in Software Engineering, Computer science, Space Systems Engineering, Physics or related specialisation.

  • Sound knowledge, with experience, in developing enterprise level Liferay portals and web content.

  • Coding skills: Java, Javascript, (S)CSS, HTML, FreeMarker, NodeJS, (preferred: Java)

  • Frameworks: ReactJS, ClayUI, Bootstrap, jQuery (preferred: ReactJS, ClayUI)

  • End-to-end testing components

  • JAVA Portal technology / Digital Experience Platforms (preferred: Liferay DXP)

  • Responsive web design

  • Git based source control

  • Crossbrowser compatibility

  • Proof of concepts

  • Troubleshooting

  • Agile

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Pro-active attitude to problem solving and customer focus

  • Strong Collaboration skills

  • Excellent time management

  • Comfortable in an international working environment

  • Fluent in written and spoken English

  • Should be willing to travel to ESA establishments and/or other European locations, if needed

Where

You will be working within ESTEC, the European Space Agency's offices in the Netherlands as a contractor for Telespazio Belgium. We don't expect the employees to be on-site full time however you will still have to relocate to the Netherlands for this position.
