Norton Sound Health Corporation Critical Care Flight Parmedic in Nome, Alaska

Purpose of Position:

Provide advanced life support care to patients during air transportation and provide EMS training to the community and provide technicial support to the emergency department to optimize patient care.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured, transporting and transfering them and assesses the extent of an illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to follow
  • Apply artificial respiration or administer oxygen in cases of asphyxiation, dyspnea or hypoxie, start and administer intravenous fluids, speciaility pharmaceuiticals, or antibiotics and dispense antiseptic solution to prevent infection and perform other emergency medical procedures during transportation
  • Assist providers in the emergency room to include, but not limited to, point of care testing, would care, phlebotomy, IV, EKGs, monitors and patient transport
  • Assume nursing duties as delegated according to the Alaska Board of Nursing Statutes and Regulations (refer to policy on nursing delegation to unlicensed assistive personnel)
  • Provide education to community residents regarding emergency medical care and prevention
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of universal precautions, EMTALA, HITECH, and HIPAA
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures common to the emergency department
  • Knowledge of emergency communication techniques
  • Knowledge of state and federal guidelines relative to emergency management procedures
