Office for the Web is a critical piece of Microsoft 365 ecosystem. Now more than ever, the need to remain connected and productive is essential for our customers. WEST team makes sure that the platform responsible for running Office for Web is modern, efficient, cost effective and has planet grade scale.

As a Principal Product Manager in WEST team, you will lead the product roadmap for the infrastructure and services that drive one of the largest productivity applications in the world. Your key challenge will be to define the platform for the next decade of success and innovation. This opportunity will allow you to develop the strategy on how to adopt the latest and greatest in cloud stack for Office for the Web. It will also present you with an opportunity to create strategy for filling the existing gaps in the end to end stack that will make the platform more resilient and efficient.

To succeed in this role, you should have a strong technical background and analytical skills, with the ability to work directly with both customer and engineering teams across the company. You should be able to formulate a vision and strategic plan whilst creating clarity in requirements, demonstrating customer-obsession with a growth mindset. You should be comfortable talking about technical components, understand development cycles but at the same time hold onto the business need and impact. Understanding of platforms, web services, and build systems will be necessary for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • You will influence others to drive business impact across the organization and track success criteria for multiple feature areas across divisions. You’ll also be an expert in identifying long-term investment opportunities and engaging partners to garner support for those feature areas.

  • You will define a feature set and facilitate senior-level usability reviews with customers. You’ll own the roadmap for multiple feature areas across divisions, and will collaborate with a partner team to build golden configurations and drive scenario walkthroughs.

  • You will partner with others to collect performance metrics and form hypotheses for complex technical needs in order to improve product development in targeted areas.

  • You will be responsible for working with engineering ensuring that the product truth is grounded in technical excellence. The PM will be expected to continuously identify opportunities for leveraging automation and AI at scale to help meet/exceed the scale, performance, security, reliability, operational efficiency goals for the service and business

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, product/service/project/program management

  • OR equivalent experience

  • You are a seasoned product manager -You are a genuine self-starter, who proactively identifies problems, proposes solutions, and drives a team to address them. 

  • You are open-minded and continuously searching for “Why” behind the data being reported/observed.

  • You are strong technically, with a track record of successfully designing and delivering solutions for complex technical problems.

  • Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team

  • Affinity towards user-centered design, product thinking, and innovation on behalf of the customer.

Other Requirements

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in the software industry, with 10+ years’ experience in product management or in similar roles.

  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including articulating complex issues and solutions.
