Focus:The Pipefitter position is responsible for installing, inspecting, documenting, maintaining and repairing a variety of utility pipe lines and utility fixtures throughout the plant, including steam, water, disposal, gas, air, hydraulic and process material.

Essential Job Functions:

This position will perform preventive maintenance and maintain continuousimprovement of equipment and tools as required in order to guarantee quality, delivery and safety targets; act as the department technical resource for technical problem solving; and be responsible for equipment modifications as required. This position requires working overtime when support is needed.

Pipefitters install, inspect, document, maintain and repair a variety of utility pipe lines and utility fixtures throughout the plant, including steam, water, disposal, gas, air, hydraulic and process material. May operate both electric-welding and acetylene-welding apparatus.

Plan and lay out installations using piping standards. Perform work from piping sketches or blueprints. Choose the proper size and material of construction for the application. Install, maintain and repair pipe lines, including steam, water, sprinkler, disposal, gas, air, hydraulic and process and their fittings, valves and traps. Cut and thread pipe as required. Cut holes in walls or floor as required for running pipe. Perform necessary pressure test on completed work. Insulate and repair pipe coverings as necessary. Adjust and repair automatic air handling systems. Change filters as needed. Perform job activities in a safe manner in accordance with policies and procedures. Use CMMS in daily work activities.

Performs and documents routine inspections of fire extinguishers, air handling units, dust collectors and vacuum systems as required.

Cuts and lays out piping systems. Possesses a working knowledge of electric and acetylene welding apparatus, fusing metal parts together to fabricate metal objects or to repair broken or cracked objects. Uses welding equipment properly. Performs soldering and brazing as required. Works with other craft persons where pipefitting is required. Maintains inventory of supplies used in routine operation and restocks cabinets as necessary. Understands equipment in the plant and how it interfaces with the rest of the facility in order to assist as required. Enters data on PC pertaining to repair and maintenance. Accesses data on PC to troubleshoot problems. Maintains order and cleanliness of work area where working. Cleans tools and equipment and performs other work as directed. Operates mobile equipment such as forklifts, boom trucks and cranes.

Uses machines and equipment such as various hand and power tools, welding apparatus, pipe threaders, mobile and rigging equipment and personal computer. Wears specialized PPE such as full-face respiratory protection and chemical protection clothing as required.

Job activities involve working near molten metal, steam, high pressure and temperature fluids and gases, high voltage electricity, heavy machinery and equipment, below ground, various gases, toxic chemicals, confined spaces, hazardous materials, in high locations (up to 100 feet), congested areas and lifting up to 50 pounds. Complies with OSHA, DER, EPA and other governmental regulations. Improper actions or mistakes could result in injuries lethal to self and others. Burns and explosions are a potential hazard.

Errors in work could result in loss of production at great cost or reduced quality of product.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of five years maintenance work experience as a pipefitter (industrial setting preferred); Journeylevel Pipefitter designation strongly preferred
  • A complete employment application that explains a detailed work history required (application and/or resume must cover at least 5 years' pipefitter work experience).
  • Able to demonstrate basic computer skills, math and problem-solving; mechanical, numerical and verbal aptitude to learn our jobs quickly.
  • Must be able to work call-ins and overtime when support is needed.
  • Able to pass a functional physical testing and able to use standard safety equipment; must be able to liftup to 50 pounds.
  • Able to climb ladders/stairs and work at heights.
  • Able to work in tight or closed-in spaces.
  • Pass a physical, drug screen and background check if job offer is received and accepted

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately $36 per hour. This salary range is only an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
