Great Ring Farm Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery in Newtown, Connecticut

1 Full Time Seasonal H-2A Jobs available 04/15/2024 - 08/31/2024.

The farm helper will, under the guidance of co-owners Chand and Roberta Ahuja, help with some of the regular farm tasks besides working on the special projects for this season. The work required will vary during the season, The work involved will range from seed starting, preparing raised beds, transplanting seedlings, fertilizing, spraying, weeding and harvesting. Duties will include sanitizing and washing buckets and changing the water of these buckets every few days to ensure that the flowers remain fresh in our cooler. The farm helper may be required to help with the other chores as needed for the chickens and goats on property (refilling feeders, waterers, cleaning the barn etc.) The worker may need to lift carry some heavy objects such as a 50-pound bag of feed or bale of hay. We will need the farm worker to use a wheelbarrow to spread compost on our planting beds and use other tools such as shovels, rakes and digging forks, typical of farming. Our projects includes digging trenches around the production area to ensure good drainage Also, as we are making our own compost, the worker will be asked to operate a tractor with a front end loader to turn the compost piles. The farm worker may also be called to use a 2 wheel push tractor (BCS) with a rotary plow to make our raised beds

Great Ring Farm will provide all equipment and tools necessary for the successful completion of this position. We will train and guide the farm worker as needed but past farming gardening experience is required. The applicant must be willing to provide references to corroborate requirements
