Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Manage production operations, plant-level operational improvement projects, and plant-level continuous improvement efforts. Achieve cost, quality, asset effectiveness, inventory, safety, service, and growth targets. This position will have supervisory responsibility for 6-8 salaried employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion process control and change management efforts to adapt to upstream and downstream operations changes, drive improvement to process capability and mitigate resultant process variation in own department.

  • Provide supervision to team leaders including effective management of key resources and overall talent management objectives.

  • Schedule resources and prioritize activities to assure efficient production schedule compliance to include product changeovers, upgrades, experiments, new product runs, training and maintenance activities.

  • Provide daily direction to production and maintenance employees and team leaders on established procedures and policies.

  • Communicate and report production and process performance metrics to production teams, plant staff division leadership and Manufacturing Effectiveness Council (MEC). Ensure production targets and delivery requirements are met on a daily and weekly basis.

  • Engage with plant teams and functional groups responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements and cost reduction projects.

  • Build and maintain close relationships with other departments to share and receive feedback on upstream and downstream operations (e.g. anticipated downtime) and, in turn, optimize performance of production operations.

  • Deploy Corning’s talent management programs within the department to effectively attract, develop, and maintain manufacturing talent, ensures that all salaried employees have training and development plans.

  • Ensure the protection of Corning’s Intellectual Property (IP).

  • Establish and define expectations for manufacturing competencies within the department.

  • Approve all process/equipment changes and experimental plans involving the production process, including process improvement, new product trial runs, equipment/tooling redesign, raw material, batch and/or component changes.

Required Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts

  • 2+ years' Manufacturing experience

  • 2+ years' Successful and proven supervisory, team leader and/or section supervisor experience in a manufacturing plant environment.

  • 2+ years' Experience and accountability for developing, implementing, and driving results for MBO’s and manufacturing line metrics.

  • Proven capability to manage, coach, direct and develop salaried exempt and non-exempt employees, training in employee effectiveness, conflict resolution, coaching, listening skills, and supervisory effectiveness.

  • Certified Green Belt or demonstrated Lean capabilities.

  • Training, understanding and demonstrated competence in plant manufacturing financials.

  • Trained and experienced in fundamentals of safety and health.

  • Experience managing the talent development strategy for the department, including programs to attract, develop and retain key talent.

Desired:

  • Exposure to multiple manufacturing processes and corporate network resources.

  • Has participated or led a cross-functional team in manufacturing environment responsible to deliver key improvement initiative or cost reduction program.

  • Experience and competence of innovation and new product development and delivery, has participated or led a project team responsible to develop and/or launch a new product into manufacturing.

  • Experience in collaborating, interfacing, and communicating upward and outward (Plant, Business and Division).

The range for this position is $94,162.00 - $129,473.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
