Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Respiratory Therapist!

As a Respiratory Therapist at MercyOne, you will perform patient assessment and evaluation for appropriate therapy, administration of therapy, consultation with other health care providers, diagnostic testing, implementation and troubleshooting of equipment and monitoring of patient. These services are provided as appropriate for patient age to include adult and geriatric adult.

Schedule:

  • Full Time /Part Time and PRN DAYS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform pulmonary function testing on adult patients, including CPFT, Methacholine challenges, FeNo testing, and disability testing.

  • Assemble, manipulate, and troubleshoot respiratory care equipment such as mechanical ventilators, pulse oximeters, capnometers, aerosol generators, medical gas delivery systems, humidification systems, and mechanical percussors.

  • Facilitate various tests, including the six-minute walk test, multiple pulse oximetry tests, and altitude simulation tests.

  • Assist in ordering patient oxygen, nebulizers, vest devices, DME, inhalers, Acapella, and PEP devices.

  • Evaluate, order, and manage inventory control of pulmonary products.

  • Interpret diagnostic results for feasibility and report findings, including blood gas or body fluid analysis, pulmonary function screening, pulmonary mechanics studies, end-tidal CO2, and pulse oximetry.

  • Perform record-keeping, billing, and medical documentation functions.

  • Provide patient education on the proper use of respiratory care devices and procedures.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Act as a resource for other departments and serve as a charge therapist as needed.

  • Perform pulmonary triage via phone calls.

  • Assist nursing staff in rooming patients, performing chest x-rays (if licensed), conducting alpha-1 finger sticks, and triaging nursing phone calls.

  • Prepare relevant documentation for healthcare providers.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Completion of an accredited Respiratory Care Program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP).

  • Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Those hired after July 1, 2017, must achieve Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) status within six months of hire.

  • State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers or obtained within three months of hire. Acceptable certifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three months of hire.

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of a Respiratory Care Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP). - Required

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or a related healthcare field. - Preferred
