The Role
Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.
The candidate selected for this position will serve as a lead software test engineer for the SwCoE Test Team. The Software Test Engineer for this role will be responsible for reviewing software requirements, designing test cases to evaluate the performance of the software, building automated testing processes, executing the software testing, reporting software issues, making recommendations to improve internal processes, and collaborating with other software test engineers and stakeholders. The Software Test Engineer engages in all aspects of the software development life cycle for shipboard network-based automation systems, including support for the planning, requirements, development, testing, quality, and configuration management of software specifically for advanced US Navy shipboard systems.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience or
Masters Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience or
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Nice to Have
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software testing philosophies and have a technical emphasis in software, electrical, instrumentation, controls, networks, and automation.
A deep understanding of the software test lifecycle, test automation, and both traditional and agile project management.
An engaging individual who desires to spearhead projects and lead and mentor junior engineers.
Proactive and responsive engagement with all internal and external customers.
Experience with Object Oriented Programming Languages, such as Python
Experience working with LabVIEW, MySQL, VBA
Experience with CM tools such as Git and ClearQuest
Experience with commercial configuration and change management tools and processes
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project
Good communication skills and the ability to work well with various teams
Demonstrated experience managing project teams or experience developing project schedules, estimates and metrics
