Description

The Maritime Operations within Mission Technologies - Nuclear & Environmental Services, is looking for a Construction Supervisor - Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) candidate to join the team in Newport News, VA.

The role will support Newport News Shipbuilding’s (NNS) VCS team managing various construction processes for new VCS ships; to include managing the build, testing, and turnover processes associated with specific areas of responsibility as defined by NNS construction/project management. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills as they will coordinate with trades, project management, planning, and test personnel, as well as the Navy customer.

What You Will Do

The role involves overseeing and managing the operational aspects of ongoing projects, acting as a liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.

The job responsibilities include reviewing/tracking the status of projects and budgets, managing schedules, and preparing status reports. Additionally, this role will be responsible for assisting with managing the completion of construction and testing of assigned areas of responsibility for the submarines being built at NNS and overseeing the turnover of operational control of systems and spaces to the Navy clients.

The candidate is expected to assess project issues and develop resolutions that meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.

Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for developing mechanisms to monitor project progress and intervene and solve problems with other project managers, construction supervisors, line managers, and clients.

What You Must Have

  • Candidate is required to have either

  • Six (6) relevant progressive experience with a Bachelors in related field;

  • Or four (4) years relevant progressive experience with a Masters in related field;

  • Or High School Diploma or equivalent and ten (10) years relevant progressive experience

  • Candidate must have two(2) years of supervisory experience.

  • Candidate must have two (2) years of project management experience.

  • Candidate must have a strong technical knowledge of how ship systems operate.

  • Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills.

  • Candidate must possess an active or obtain a secret security clearance.

  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.

Bonus Points ...

  • Five (5) years of technical experience specifically on VCS projects.

  • Active-duty NAVY service on a Virginia Class Sub boat is preferred.

Physical Requirements

May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
