Data-Mail Production Supervisor in Newington, Connecticut

LOCATION: Newington, CT. This is an in person role.

SUMMARY

Overall responsibility for all aspects of assigned department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Achieve production standards with expected quality on a daily basis. Monitor all aspects of production utilizing all tools, such as, interval measurement, cum, and standard cycle speeds throughout the shift. Make continual observations and recommendations to increase production. Immediately communicate all significant delays in production to the shift manager. Take actions to alleviate such delays.

  • Ensure all personnel within the department are following safety procedures. Perform a safety check at least twice a day. Correct any safety problems and immediately communicate any continuous safety questions or problems to the shift manager. Record all injuries in the Injury Report Form as soon as an injury occurs. Deliver the reports immediately to the human resources department.

  • Ensure proper staffing throughout the day. Communicate staffing needs with other department supervisors and the shift manager as they occur. Calculate and maintain efficient ratios of overtime indirect with direct. Receive vacation and leave-of-absence requests from employees, making recommendations to the shift manager.

  • Train and evaluate new and temporary employees in a timely fashion. Report on training on a daily basis to the shift manager. Perform performance evaluations for all employees in your department in a timely and professional manner. Monitor each employee’s performance throughout the year, taking actions and making recommendations to constantly improve each employee’s performance. Handle employee problems in a professional manner. Explain and enforce company policies. Refer problems to the human resources department.

  • Ensure proper maintenance of department for current and next shift, including supplies, safety items and cleanliness. Prepare the department for the next shift, including machine setups. Communicate with other shift regarding all relevant aspects of the department. Use logbook as a source of communication.

  • Responsible for having all mechanical problems which delay the daily production corrected through mechanic supervisor. Ensure, through mechanic supervisor, mechanics are setting appropriate machines and hitting lights, as appropriate.

  • Ensure material handlers are working efficiently.

  • Ensure all quality control procedures are followed and that quality control employees are working efficiently. Ensure folding and cutting is done correctly. Ensure samples are done in a timely manner and are the best quality. Write Quality Alert Notice (QAN) for mistakes and segregate. Investigate how mistake happened and take corrective action.

  • Ensure that bag/tray tags, when available, are being properly used at the machines.

  • Ensure correct labelaire stickers are being used. Purge folder when done with version or job.

  • Create reports on material difficulty; assess the impact on production; and report to manager.

  • Verify the completion of a job prior to breaking down the machine and undertaking a new setup.

  • Communicate with data center on hot jobs and make sure bindery needs are met.

  • Comply with company rules, regulations and procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.

  • Implement a commitment to quality philosophy and recommend methods and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve operating efficiency of the department.

  • Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.

  • Perform other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and company

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Two-years of college plus 3 - 5 years of experience as a supervisor in a lettershop environment or equivalent

  • Ability to motivate personnel to perform at a quality level, yet be able to discipline as necessary in a consistent and fair approach

  • Knowledge of computers

  • Good analytical ability
